The Tao-Cicar Wrestling Club family presented its new teams for the 2022-23 season last Saturday. An act that is resumed this year after the pandemic did not allow it.
The event, which was held in the Andrés Curbelo - Pollo de Tao arena, was directed by the former wrestler José Barrios, presenter of the program "Manos a la Arena" of Biosfera Televisión. Family, friends and fans supported and applauded each of the 76 wrestlers who went down to the arena and the members of the technical body and the Board of Directors chaired by Francisco Díaz Torres (Paquito).
Paquito addressed all those present and especially the parents of the wrestlers, thanking them for their support and collaboration in order to continue defending the colors of the Tao-Cicar Wrestling Club. He also had words of gratitude for the institutions and commercial firms since "without their support this mission would be totally impossible" which is to continue with the vernacular sport, a sign of identity of the Canary People.
It should be noted that after several years the alevín and benjamín teams from the island of La Graciosa with their coach Juan Carlos Hernández Betancort return to the wrestling grounds. Although the wrestlers were not present at the event, their names were announced, receiving applause from the public. In the presentation day there were very emotional moments with the recognition of the former wrestler of the base category and neighbor of the town of Tao, Braulio Betancort Tejera who very excited jumped to the arena receiving a great ovation by all those present. As a souvenir, the president Francisco Díaz gave him a commemorative plaque, Juan José Guillen, coach of the base categories, gave him personalized wrestling clothes and Oswaldo Betancort, mayor of Teguise, also gave him a plaque.
The sports day ended with the friendly second category fight between the Club de Lucha Unión Antigua de Fuerteventura and the Club de Lucha Tao-Cicar teams with the final result of Antigua 12, Tao 10.
