The Swede Carl Birgersson inscribes his name in the roll of honor of the International President's Trophy Regatta

The twelve scheduled races were completed in three intense days of sailing in Arrecife

The bay of Arrecife celebrated the second edition of the International Trofeo Presidente Regatta 2026, an event organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and Atlantis Academy. Three intense days of sailing on the coast of Lanzarote's capital, completing the twelve scheduled races. The Swede Carl Birgersson inscribes his name in the honors list of the International Trofeo Presidente Regatta and is proclaimed champion of the second edition.

The good weather conditions allowed for the normal development of the second edition of the Regata Internacional Trofeo Presidente 2026, and in which 130 sailors finally participated. An event that stands out for its international character, with the presence of athletes from 23 nationalities who travel to Lanzarote due to the excellent conditions for sailing in the winter season.

The fleet was divided into two groups throughout the three days of competition. Carl Birgersson was the dominator of the Regata Internacional Trofeo Presidente, showing great consistency to place in each of the races among the top classified. The Swedish sailor claimed the partial victory in the first two heats, and from that moment on he consolidated in the leadership to be proclaimed champion of the second edition.

The Turk Eren Kaan Erendemir and the Brazilian Manuel Bargança completed the podium occupying the second and third position, respectively, and also being, along with Carl Birgersson, the first three classified of the male sub´16 category. Among the females, Margaux Nguyen-Minh (Hong Kong), took the victory in the sub´16 category, ahead of the French Lilou Backes.

The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, host club in the Presidente 2026 International Regatta, had a wide presence of sailors. The most outstanding role was played by the young Lola Carrión, with the Lanzarotean sailor managing to climb to the third step of the podium in the U16 female category and also being the winner of the U13 category.

As for the rest of the categories, Pablo J. Medina (Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria) was proclaimed winner of the male U13 category and Irene Falcón (Club Marítimo Varadero) was third in the female U13. The Lithuanian Daugirdas Rimas and the Polish Julia Saj were the winners of the U11 category, and Hugo Díaz González (Real Club Náutico de Arrecife) was third in the male U11 category.

The II International President Trophy Regatta 2026 concluded with the trophy presentation, an event that took place in the halls of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. Julio Romero, president of the club, was accompanied by Simone Ricci, head of Atlantis Academy, and members of the Board of Directors of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. Carl Birgersson received the trophy that accredits him as champion and on which his name is inscribed for future editions.

The II International President Trophy Regatta 2026 has been organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and Atlantis Academy by delegation of the Real Federación Canaria de Vela (RFCV), the Real Federación Española de Vela (RFEV) and the Asociación Española de la Clase Internacional Optimist (AECIO). It had the sponsorship of the Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo de Lanzarote, the collaboration of Naviera Armas – Transmediterránea, Gobierno de Canarias, Cabildo de Lanzarote, Servicio Insular de Deportes, European Sport Destination, Ayuntamiento de Arrecife, Deportes Arrecife, Turismo Arrecife. In addition, and the support of Gran Hotel Arrecife, CICAR, Juan Toledo – Renault, Asociación Española de Clubes Náuticos and Asociación Canaria de Clubes Náuticos.
