The Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife debuted this season at the Pabellón Municipal de Titerroy and did so by receiving Calvo Xiria on Saturday afternoon in the second round of the Primera Nacional Masculina. San José Obrero dominated the match from the start and had a lead of more than ten goals in the second half; only a relaxation in the final minutes allowed the Galician team to make the final score more respectable at 30 to 34.
The match began with a very intense pace of play from both teams, from which Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife derived greater benefit. With an impenetrable 6:0 defense and fast-paced attacking plays, the home team gradually widened the gap on the scoreboard. Carlos Robles, Acoidán Martín, and Abián Martín were responsible for making it 3 to 1 on the Titerroy scoreboard.
Aday González finished off a quick counter-attack to establish the 4-1 lead, forcing the Calvo Xiria coach to call the first timeout when only six minutes of the match had been played. Following instructions from the bench, the Galician team began to find more solutions in attack, especially from the wings.
During one phase of the first half, goalkeeper Saúl Rodríguez shut down his goal, making good saves and notably stopping two counter-attacks aimed at José Manuel Negreira. In these minutes, Javi Aragón scored a seven-meter throw, and Javier Espinosa and Acoidán Martín scored from their own half, taking advantage of the opponent having emptied their goal. The score was 20 to 13 at halftime.
Balonmano Lanzarote continued to maintain its defensive intensity and good offensive play for a large part of the second half, increasing the lead to over ten goals. In attack, Carlos Robles showed great effectiveness with outside shots or drives into the defense, finishing the match with 9 goals to his name.
Calvo Xiria's 5:1 defense in the last ten minutes and the home team's relaxation allowed the visitors to reduce the deficit as the minutes passed and avoid such a large defeat in their second match of the season.
With the score of 30 to 34, the end of the match was reached, with Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife adding its second victory of the season in the Primera Nacional Masculina and showing very solid play on the 40x20. San José Obrero visits Balonmano Saeplast Cañiza next matchday.
