The Zaragoza circuit of Zuera hosted this weekend the start of the 2014 Rotax series season. The Lanzarote pilot José María Reina, member of the Team BRT—Tony Kart team, starred in a magnificent performance in the two scoring races and finishes the first race of the season as second classified in the DD2 Máster category. A weekend in which José María Reina and his entire team have had to overcome a series of difficulties, the most complex being the breakage of the kart's radiator when he was about to start the first scoring race. The result obtained consolidates the work done in recent months and invites the team members to continue working hard for a season that promises to be most exciting.
Rain and cold made an appearance at the Zaragoza circuit of Zuera, the place where the 2014 Rotax Series season has begun. The free practice session on Saturday morning was not at all satisfactory for José María Reina. Once the problems were solved, during the afternoon the Lanzarote pilot was able to complete three runs and set the second best time in the DD2 Máster category. Good feelings that were maintained on Sunday morning, when he set the best time in the "warm up", a training session that is held before the timed classification.
The good feelings of the Team BRT-Tony Kart team would not be transferred to the timed classification, in which the drivers were playing for a good position on the starting grid. José María Reina found a lot of traffic on the track, not being able to complete a clean lap and that prevented him from making a good time. The Lanzarote pilot explained that he had "found a lot of traffic on the track, with drivers who have prevented me from scratching seconds in each of the curves and not making the best time we expected". Reina resigned himself and commented that he had "to come back in the race".
It was not going to be an easy weekend for all the members of the Team BRT-Tony Kart team, suffering the breakage of the kart's radiator when he was on the starting grid of the first race. The good work of the mechanics was fundamental, replacing the damaged radiator in less than three minutes and taking the start without problems. José María Reina conquered a valuable third position in the DD2 Máster category in this first race. The Canarian driver concluded the race with a lot of pain in his arm, reproducing the pain of an injury he has suffered in his arm for several months. The team's physio made an effort to recover the driver and he was able to start the second race.
The second race was frenetic. The first ten drivers, among whom was José María Reina, were together fighting for the victory and overtaking each other in each of the curves of the circuit. Reina took the victory in this second race, a result that allows him to be in the second position of the general of the DD2 Máster category. A magnificent result to start a season that promises to be very exciting and in which the conejero driver hopes to fight for the first places of the 2014 Rotax Series.
At the conclusion of the first race of the season, José María Reina positively valued the result obtained. "It has been a weekend of a lot of work, in which all the members of the Team BRT-Tony Kart team have put on a great performance, highlighting the role of the mechanics who have set up the kart and without forgetting the help of all of us who are in this adventure", commented José María Reina.
All the competitors in the 2014 Rotax Series have suffered tire problems in the first race of the season. Reina commented that "the new compound of tires wears out too quickly". "Our kart kept them very well during the races, which allowed us to be quite ahead in each of the races, and this will be one of the points to take into account throughout the season", explained the Lanzarote driver.
The next event of the 2014 Rotax Series will be on April 27 at the Recas circuit (Toledo). José María Reina has the support of the Team BRT-Tony Kart team, Grouplance, Turismo Lanzarote, Ayuntamiento de Arrecife, Televisión Canaria and LanzaroteDeportiva.com.
