The XXXIII edition of Ironman Lanzarote kicked off this Saturday when the clock struck 07:00, with the starting signal given by the vice president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Jesús Tovar.
“I wish the best of luck to the more than 1,100 participants who will tour the island seeking to be the iron man and woman”, said the vice president at the start, who also congratulated the organization and the Insular Sports Service, led by Councilor Juan Monzón, “for the commendable work done”.
For his part, Councilor Juan Monzón, said that Ironman Lanzarote “is without a doubt one of the most anticipated sporting events”. “From the Insular Sports Service we have always valued this event and its precursor, Kennneth Gasque, to whom we recently made a sculpture to commemorate his legacy”, he pointed out.
After the start given by Tovar, the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, was in charge of giving the starting signal in the women's category of the elite category. Along with him were also councilors Domingo Cejas, Ascension Toledo and Aroa Revelo; as well as the Sports Councilor of Tías, Ismael Cruz.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote asks citizens to respect the provisional signage as well as the detours caused by road closures, while apologizing for the inconvenience caused.
