The children and cadet judokas of the Costa Teguise Judo Club have obtained a meritorious result representing Lanzarote in the 2024 Judo Championship of the Canary Islands last weekend. They have won a total of nine medals in the event held in the Miguel Ángel Díaz Molina Pavilion of Puerto de la Cruz, on the island of Tenerife.

The thirteen representatives of the Teguise club, as three were finally dropped from the call for personal reasons, managed to bring two fifth places, three bronze medals, three silver medals and three gold medals to Lanzarote, the latter being the ones that give them the passport to the Spanish Championship that will be held in Pamplona on April 27.

The podiums obtained by the judokas from Lanzarote on the island of Tenerife have helped them to become the third best team in the Canary Islands in the category, only behind Gran Canaria, leaders, and Tenerife. The judokas of the Costa Teguise Judo Club who have participated, steered in the regional championship by their monitors, Alejandro Medina and Mercedes Doblado, and under the technical direction of Master Alejandro Ramírez, have been Laura López Canto, Eimy Curbelo Morales, Elisabeth Díaz Menchón, Dylan Hernández Medina, Alberto José Medina Lorenzo, Ulises Casas Fragiel, Asier Morales Cubas, Sofía Ramos Ruiz, Carmen López Canto, Irene Moreno Gálvez, Ainhoa Cabrera González, Anxo Cooper Rego and Ángel García Cabrera, although the latter could not compete due to last-minute bureaucratic problems.

The president of the club, Antonio Ramírez, congratulated “the judokas of the Teguise club who have represented the island of Lanzarote so worthily in the Canary Islands Championship in Tenerife, not only for their performance during the weekend, but above all for the effort during the last months to arrive prepared for the regional tournament. I am proud that our judokas have secured a place for the Spanish Championship that will be held in Pamplona at the end of this month, an essential event for them to enjoy that magical and unforgettable moment, as they have earned it and I am completely convinced that it will mean an essential boost in their lives so that they continue to grow as people and also as athletes of the noble world of judo, protected in the entrails of the Costa Teguise Judo Club”.
