The Costa Teguise Judo Club begins in mid-August an agenda full of championships in the coming months. To begin with, this Saturday, March 16, the judokas from Lanzarote will participate in the XVI Cidade de Santiago Trophy, scoring for the final of the Spanish Judo Championship in the “A” Children's categories, both male and female.
The event, which will have four tatamis, will be held at the Santa Isabel Municipal Pavilion in the city of Compostela and will feature the participation of children's judokas (born in 2010 and 2011).
The Teguise club comes with half a dozen athletes who will represent the Canary Islands, already knowing the taste of the podium but in need of more experience: Laura López, Eimy Curbelo, Elisabeth Díaz, Alberto Medina, Dylan Hernández and Asier Morales. They will be accompanied by Alejandro Ramírez (delegate), Alejandro Medina (monitor) and Mercedes Doblado (monitor).
For the president of the club, Antonio Ramírez, “this competition comes after the Granadilla cups, in Tenerife, and Montijo, in Extremadura. We return with the Children's category to compete in a high-level competition in order to gain experience for the Canary Islands Championship that will be held in Tenerife at the beginning of April. The really important thing is the training of our judokas, valuing our quarry again. Being in Lanzarote, unlike the capital islands or the peninsular clubs, we have no one to compete with and it is immensely expensive to attend this type of competition. In addition, it is a complicated trip due to the connections, not only will they get up early on Friday to fly to Galicia first thing in the morning, via Madrid, but they will return with the first Sunday lights. In short, an international competition in which Portuguese judokas also participate in which our quarry will acquire tons of experience for the regional championship in April”, concludes Ramírez.
