The Arrecife City Council, through its Sports area, has awarded the execution of the project to reform and expand the ball and petanque courts on Manolo Millares street, for an amount that will amount to seven hundred and thirty-four thousand euros and an execution period of six months.

The mayor of the capital, Astrid Pérez, has pointed out that "we continue to rehabilitate and improve the sports facilities of the municipality, transforming them into modern and accessible places".

For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Rosmen Quevedo, highlighted the importance of the works due to the "need to improve the sports facilities for ball and petanque, a measure that has been highly demanded by the numerous fans and practitioners of this sport in Arrecife."

Integral renovation of the space

This reform - awarded to the construction company Rustilanza - will consist of the integral renovation of all the facilities including electricity, plumbing and sanitation.

In addition, the place will be expanded with the construction of the new headquarters of the Arrecife Ball and Petanque Club, since the previous one had been demolished due to its deterioration.

Currently, the ball and petanque courts subject to reform and expansion have facilities where the Island Federation is located, as well as two ball and petanque clubs -Club de Bola Lanzarote Tropical and Club de Bola y Petanca Arrecife- being planned that in the expansion that is going to be carried out, the same areas will be maintained and one more will be added where the staircase to access the roof is located, the public bathrooms and a room for the fire pump, as well as a self-supporting roof to create areas of shade and protection from the rain in the area of the courts, in such a way that you can play both ball and petanque in times when weather conditions are adverse.

In addition to the aforementioned improvements, the execution of the work will allow the renovation of the entire playing field incorporating specific and approved material for the development of the Canarian ball, bocce ball and petanque game, since what was there until now -of earth-, was not the most suitable for these sports.
