This Wednesday, the 47th Orvecame Isla de Lanzarote Rally-Ciudad de Arrecife Trophy has officially started, with this event also kicking off the 2026 rally season, both for the Canary Islands Championship (CCRA) and the bp Las Palmas Championship. The ROIL26 will be held from this Friday with the departure ceremony based in Arrecife and seven timed stages on Saturday spread across several municipalities of the island.
The Open Mall shopping center hosted one more year the official presentation of the rally, a strategic location in Arrecife where we will have the service park, document delivery, start and final arrival ceremonies (Rambla Modular), closed parks and technical verifications of the vehicles in the nearby Municipal Stadium. Also on Friday from 6:00 p.m., the drivers will attend to fans on the starting ramp to sign autographs and deliver rally posters.
For the second consecutive year, Lanzarote kicks off the 2026 Canary Islands rally championships and for this reason, anticipation is at its peak, with most of the favorite teams already present in this first of the eight scoring events for the CCRA. There will be 39 teams in total, with great quality to aspire to victory, as is the case of those led by drivers Enrique Cruz, Yeray Lemes, Alexey Lukyanuk, Sergio Fuentes, Yoday Betancort, Oscar Cabrera, all with Rally2 type cars, in addition to several more teams with Porsche 911 GTR type mounts, among others.
The event was attended by the mayor of Arrecife, Jonathan de León, who closed the presentation explaining the importance of Arrecife in the spectacle outside the timed sections, which will be offered to followers in the vicinity of the Open Mall and the Rambla Medular. On behalf of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Councilor for Sports Juan Monzón and the Councilor for Spatial Planning and Classified Activities Jesús Machín attended, who emphasized the joint work carried out by the Cabildo to bring forward motor competitions, also justified by being the most popular sport on the island.
In addition to the presidents of FALP and FCA for the sports side, Dani Ponce and Miguel Angel Domínguez, the official presentation of ROIL26 featured the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, plus his Sports councilor, Ángel Lago. For San Bartolomé, a municipality that hosts two regroupings, it was represented by Alexis Romero, Sports councilor, while the town of Tías attended with its Sports councilor, Ismael Cruz. The Sports council of Arrecife was also present at the event, with Eli Merino at the helm.
Teguise and the mayor of San Bartolomé apologized for their presence and for the sponsors and collaborators attended Javier Martín (Grupo Cabrera Medina, CICAR and Orvecame), also designer of the rally poster. Pedro Pérez also joined for the bp station of Valterra, official fuel supplier of the ROIL26.
Security meeting
This morning the go-ahead was given to the organizational plan of CD. Evesport for ROIL26, with the security coordination meeting to verify all related points during the development of the rally. Attending the meeting were representatives from the Lanzarote town councils, Island Council, CNP, Local Police, Traffic Civil Guard, Emergency Consortium, Firefighters, Red Cross, Civil Protection.
As always, more control will be established in the areas where there is usually more public and fans, especially to place them safely in the timed section and that vehicles do not park in prohibited or protected areas.
