The 34th edition of the Lanzarote International Running Challenge, organized by Club La Santa, has successfully concluded after the celebration of its four stages. This race has had the Tinajo City Council as co-organizer and the Cabildo de Lanzarote and Lanzarote European Sports Destination as collaborating entities. The event, which began last Sunday, has attracted more than 1,100 runners from 30 nationalities who have competed in its different categories: male, female and team.
As a preview, on Saturday the 19th the Night Run took place, the vibrant night race of Club La Santa, which ended with Laurens Verluyten (00:12:11) and Sara Rivas (00:15:23) as winners in the four kilometers, while in the seven kilometers the victory was for Daniel Casanova (00:24:09) and Angela McCann (00:28:05). In total, more than 600 sports fans competed in the hotel complex to enjoy a unique event with a relaxed and familiar atmosphere.
On Sunday the first of the four stages took place. The Vince Regan Memorial Classic Road Run, with 10 kilometers of racing on asphalt, had the Dutchman Bas Stigter as the winner, who managed to finish in a time of 00:33:12. In the female category, the winner was Catherine Thornton, with a mark of 00:37:31. In the team competition, the triumph was awarded to Milton Buzzards in the male category and Crusaders A in the female category, both climbing to the top of the ladder in this edition.
On Monday the Ridge Run took place, the second race of the competition, which consists of 13 kilometers on land. Bas Stigter (00:45:21) again obtained the victory, while in the female category the Irish Catherine Thornton (00:52:54) also repeated. By teams, Milton Buzzards and Sportsworld 1 were imposed in the male and female classifications, respectively.
The Beach Race held on Tuesday was a great challenge for the fastest competitors. With five kilometers of racing on the sand of Puerto del Carmen, Stigter, with a time of 00:17:11, and Thornton, with a mark of 00:20:54, would climb, like the two previous days, to the top of the box. Milton Buzzards in the male category and Sportsworld 1 in the female category would also be awarded in the team event.
To finish the competition, today La Vuelta de Tinajo has taken place, the toughest race with 21 kilometers on asphalt and land. In this stage, the Danish Kasper Laumann and, once again, Catherine Thornton, have been proclaimed winners. The winning male team was Milton Buzzards in the male category and Sportsworld 1 in the female category.
The overall computation of the four events of the event has left the Dutchman Bas Stigter as champion of the Lanzarote International Running Challenge in the male category, followed by the Danes Kasper Laumann and Aladdin Bouhania. In the female category, the general classification has ended with a podium formed by three Irish women: Catherine Thornton, Angela McCann and Shona Keane.

This edition of the Lanzarote International Running Challenge has closed the calendar of events of Club La Santa in this 2022 and has once again highlighted its commitment to sports, active life and the celebration of events that place the island of Lanzarote in the center of the national and international scene of the world of sports.
