The 19th Christmas Gymnastics Festival of Isla de Lanzarote has kicked off this Friday with the participation of the Capellanía del Yágabo and Insular Sports Service. This already traditional event with gymnastics will take place this year for six days, until Thursday, December 19. Also, this year food and toys will be collected for the neediest families. Those who wish to score a goal in this solidarity goal can deliver their donation, whether they want to attend the gymnastics exhibitions or not. Emerlan volunteers will be in the pavilion collecting these donations every day of the Festival.
In this nineteenth edition, 1,450 gymnasts from seven clubs on the island will participate, in addition to schools, sports centers and associations that practice rhythmic or artistic gymnastics. Lanzarote is thus experiencing a new event with gymnastics, a sport that has taken root on the island and has been consolidating with the emergence of more schools and clubs dedicated to this sports modality. Thus, the Christmas Gymnastics Festival, which this year celebrates its nineteenth edition, was born as an initiative of the Insular Sports Service with the intention of offering a showcase where the different gymnastics groups could present their gymnastic skills.
This year, the Festival also has the participation of members of the Spanish Aerobic Gymnastics Team, coming from the High Performance Center, C.A.R., of Barcelona, as well as members of the Aesab–La Mina and Gervasio Deferr clubs, champions of Catalonia and runners-up of Spain this year 2013. We will also have the presence of the choreographer Noemi Irurtia Amigó, autonomous selector of Catalonia, member of the Technical Committee of the RFEG and international judge of the FIG (International Gymnastics Federation).
