Playa Blanca turned on its Christmas decorations this Saturday, November 25, on Calle Limones, and the tourist center was soon in festive and sporting mode with the touch of the Los Timanfeiros troupe and the launch of the three distances of the Music Race Night, a violet tide with an obvious nod to the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, as expressly underlined by the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, before the dream heart was illuminated.
The victory in the main event stayed at home with Suso Albar, an athlete from Playa Blanca who completed the 10 km in 40:16 minutes, followed closely by another old rocker of running like Elías Estevez (40:18m) and the very young Carlos Callero (40:55m). The podium for women was adorned by the great performance of Raquel Salvador (47:58m), María Yisel González (48:08m) and Elisabeth Solero (48:14m).
The triumph for Suso Albar means, in addition to the smile of victory, continuing to gain confidence and preparation for the Lanzarote Marathon 2023 on December 2. Albar has finally managed to recover from a recurring injury that kept him out of high competition for more than six months.
“The route of the Playa Blanca night race is very fast, but at the same time it has sections with slopes such as Avenida Papagayo and a part of the Paseo Marítimo that demand greater effort, and even more so, if throughout the race you have Elías stuck to you without giving you a chance to breathe,” said the runner minutes after crossing the finish line.
In the 5Km distance, where the bulk of the 400 registered athletes participated, the greatest honors went to Nicolás Hernández (21:19m), Hugo Pérez (21:31m) and Ayose Tejera (21:48m). The best classified women in this same distance were Elizabeth Rosa (24:10m), Puri Gallego (28:01m) and Gladys Becerra (29:01m). The councilors of Sports of Yaiza, Ángel Lago, and of Culture and Equality, Daniel Medina, participated in this distance. Lago highlighted “the atmosphere in the center of Playa Blanca and along the entire route and the high participation of athletes of all ages and companions who encourage us to continue promoting this night race, trying to improve aspects that we can surely optimize. We must thank all the sponsoring companies that facilitate the organization and celebration of the event.”
In the short distance, of 1.6 km, many boys and girls and entire families could be seen running and walking in the middle of the applause of the public, especially crowded on Avenida Papagayo, as full as the bars and restaurants in the area were. The classification table of the mile was headed, in male, by Luis Rodríguez (5:12m), Joel Concepción (5:27m) and Samu Lariño (5:33m), while in the female category Yasmin Acuña (5:46m), Elizabeth Rosa (5:49m) and Iballa Rodríguez (6:28m) shone. Rosa has double merit because she also competed and won in 5 km.
The Yaiza City Council appreciates the participation of its neighbors and the people of Lanzarote, as well as the collaboration of businesses and residents of the center of Playa Blanca affected by the temporary closure of streets and the work of the Yaiza Civil Protection volunteers and Local Police and the members of the Triyaiza Sports Club, co-organizers of the Playa Blanca Music Race Night.
From now on, Yaiza has an intense program of events during Christmas and Reyes that citizens can consult this week at yaiza.es and in the printed Agenda that will circulate through the towns of the municipality.
