Successfully celebrated the new edition of the IES Yaiza Triathlon

The event saw the participation of more than 900 athletes, including teachers and students from 20 secondary schools on the island.

This Friday, April 19, we were able to enjoy a new edition of the IES Yaiza Triathlon, which this year celebrates its silver anniversary under the motto 'For you'. The event saw the participation of more than 900 athletes, including teachers and students from 20 secondary schools from the islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Tenerife.

The IES Yaiza Triathlon is a sporting event that year after year reinforces its importance within the Canary Islands' sporting calendar, especially in the school environment. It is one of the most relevant extracurricular activities that takes place in our islands and that this year has been possible thanks to the co-organization of the IES Yaiza, the Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote through the Insular Sports Service and the Yaiza City Council through Deportes Yaiza Municipio Activo.

The event offered a great spectacle to the public that followed the route of the race from the beach of Puerto Calero to the finish line located in the IES Yaiza, highlighting at all times the great effort made, the solidarity and the companionship demonstrated by all the participants.

At 08.30 in the morning the participating centers were welcomed and, immediately, the athletes moved by bus or on their own bicycles to the points of the route where they started their race. At 10.18 in the morning, the organization gave the starting signal to the individual triathletes together with the swimmers of the women's teams. Four minutes later the men's and mixed teams left. Finally, and to preserve the safety of the students, the novice triathletes of the First Cycle of ESO of the host institute were released. In the first stage, a distance of 800 meters was covered in open sea in waters near the marina.

After this first section of the race, the participants began a small link race of 1,200 meters along the Avenida Marítima de Puerto Calero to the parking lot of the Hotel Secrets Resort & Spa from where the bicycle relay started to cover more than 8 kilometers to reach the soccer field of the IES Yaiza.

Finally, they disputed the long distance race, consisting of more than 3.5 kilometers around the school, until the end of the course at the finish line, between the cheers and applause of the public. In this edition, the winners of the individual category in under 20 years were, in the male category, first, Gustavo Lourenco of IES Playa Honda with a time of 58 ́12" and bib number 125; second, Vince Duschneit of IES Corralejo (1h02 ́26") with bib number 117; and in third place, Iván Torres Balló of IES Corralejo (1h05 ́12"), bib number 114. In its female equivalent, Idaira Rodríguez Ortiz of IES Yaiza (1h07 ́04"), bib number 150.

The first to reach the finish line, among the participants over 20 years, were, in the female category, Elisabeth Solero Palomo of IES Blas Cabrera (1h05 ́46", bib number 252); in second place, Luz Marina Cabrera of IES Yaiza with a time of (1h28 ́13", bib number 254); and in third place, Marta Marín Betancor of IES Las Maretas (1h32 ́36", bib number 253). In the male category over 20 years, in first place, Javier Dorronsoro of IES Blas Cabrera with a time of 49 ́34" (bib number 200). In second place, Sebastián A. Veiga Ochoa of IES La Oliva (1h05́52", bib number 202) and, in third place, Fernando Orti Vidal of IES Playa Honda (1h07 ́13", bib number 205).

In male teams under 20 years old, the winners were the representatives of IES Tías Pedro M., Jonathan, V., Javier G. and Felipe L. (54 ́09", bib number 380); in second place, from IES Las Salinas, with bib number 349, Diego P., Juan N., Javier M. and Miguel Ángel M. (54 ́41"); in third place, with bib number 321, the participants from IES César Manrique, Juan José A., Aduén M., Diego D. and Marcos P. (54 ́59").

In female teams, the winners were Micaela N., Noa V., Dolores M. and Aitana R. of IES Las Salinas (bib number 413, 1h04 ́51"); in second place, from IES Tías, Sara R., Noa H., Julia G. and Claudia C. (bib number 429, 1h10 ́47"). And in third place, from IES Blas Cabrera, Natalia G., Eva De la Iglesia, Allison G. and Ainhoa G. (bib number 403, 1h12 ́12").

The winning mixed team was the one integrated by Lily Jeanne G., Nicolás H. and Carlos C. of IES Costa Teguise (bib number 474, 48 ́18"). In second place the team formed by Ariadna S., Nayra P., Aleksander H. and Hicham K. (bib number 461, 56 ́03"); and in third place the team of IES Blas Cabrera composed by Famara U., Daniel M., Jaasaí A. and Michael D. (bib number 462, 54 ́35").

In the category of teams over 20 years old, the winners were the representatives of IES Agustín Espinosa, Pablo H., Javier L., Manuel C. and Juan Gregorio T. (bib number 550, 50 ́55"); in second place the representatives of IES Yaiza, Tomás T., Antonio U., Manuel M. and José Miguel F. (bib number 558, 53 ́19"); and in third place from IES César Manrique, Pedro Lucas M., Daniel Ángel I., Pablo B. and Aarón S. (bib number 554, 58 ́21") in the male category.

In the female category, the winning athletes in first place were María del Valle Z., Daisse C., Celia C. and Cristina C. of IES Agustín Espinosa (bib number 600, 57 ́50"); and in second place the team of IES Altavista integrated by Rosa Delia M., Yolanda B., Begoña P. and Elena R. (bib number 601, 1h11 ́46").

In the mixed group category over 20 years old, the winners were Miguel Ángel G., Ginés H., Soraya M., and Alejandro G. of IES Tías (bib number 639, 1h01 ́16"). In second place, Francisco José S., Miguel L., Sergio R. and Izaskun I. of IES Costa Teguise (bib number 633, 1H04 ́24"). And in third place, the team of IES las Salinas composed by José Ramón R., Alba R., Ayoze R. and Marta C. (bib number 636, 1h05 ́01").

As a guest athlete, participated the former student of IES Yaiza Enrique Martínez Meléndez, who got the second best time of the race to 36" of the absolute winner. Finally, among the participating students of First and Second of ESO of IES Yaiza was the winner in the individual modality Enea Cucchetti, with the bib number 11 and a time of 1h03 ́07"; in second place, Alberto Miranda, with the bib number 10 and a time of 1h16 ́49". The winning participant in the female individual category, with a time of 1h14 ́31" and with the bib number 20, was Iballa Rodríguez Orts; the second place, with a time of 1h18 ́11" and with the bib number 21, was Isabelle Bitples.

By teams, among the participants of IES Yaiza, the winners were the students Aitana G., Marta B., Isabel M. and Cali O ́Connor, with the bib number 60 and a time of 1h19 ́26". The second ones were Lucía G. Mercedes V., Daniela G. and Idaira M (bib number 61, 1h25 ́18"). The winning students were Mencey C., Darío G., Lleir Nicolás C. and Teno H. with the bib number 54 and a time of 1h09 ́32". The second classified were: Jan Luis K., Miguel Alejandro R., José Acaymo B. and Víctor G (bib number 53, 1h11 ́26"). And the third ones, Mohamed H. and Riyad M. (bib number 52, 1h40 ́18"). In the mixed teams category, in first place, the participants Samuel Paul M., Aitor U., Iker G. and Carmen M. (bib number 70, 1h18 ́54"). In second place, Marcos M., Alba M., Ainhoa M. and Yu Alba T. (bib number 71, 2h04 ́41"). Our Turtle Award was for Ainhoa Mirabal De León of IES Yaiza, bib number 71.
