Success of the III edition of the Lanzarote Foil Challenge

Throughout this Saturday, the third edition of the Lanzarote Foil Challenge was held on the island of Lanzarote. In an exciting day, the sailors enjoyed the favorable wind that made them fly over the windsurf foil board along the coast of Lanzarote, reaching speeds of up to 30 knots.

This edition has been marked by the unstable weather conditions in recent days. This situation has led the organization to decide that the regatta will be held in two days, Thursday, November 30 and Saturday, December 2. In this way, the challenge has been achieved, more than 200 kilometers traveled that place the Lanzarote Foil Challenge in the only ultra marathon regatta in the world.

The windsurfers competed in the Open Pro female and male, IQ Foil, Local and Kite Foil categories. On Thursday, the scoring event started at 12 in the morning from Marina Rubicón to start at the Pechiguera Lighthouse and go up through El Golfo to La Santa. From there they continued to Famara, where the sailors arrived around 2:30 p.m.

The German Nico Prien and the Frenchman Adrien Mestre finished this first part of the regatta tied on points, followed by the Swede Hugo Sjöberg, within the Open Pro category.
In IQFoil, the Polish Pawel Tarnowski was the first to reach the finish line ahead of his compatriot Michal Polak, while the third position was for the Hungarian Máté Bors.

This Saturday, the regatta was resumed from Famara with larger than expected waves that further complicated the difficulty of the test. They sailed to La Graciosa, where the Frenchman Adrien Mestre arrived first over the German Nico Prien and Pawel Tarnowski. The fourth section ended in Costa Teguise, with Michal Polak in front, followed by Tarnowski and Mestre. From there to Marina Rubicón, the finish line of the regatta, with Michal entering first.

Thus, the classification in the Open Pro category was as follows: Adrien Mestre in first place, followed by Nico Prien and Hugo Sjöberg took third place.
In the IQ Foil category, it was finally Pawel Tarnowski who was crowned as the winner, with Michal Polak and Máté Bors occupying the second and third position respectively.

The Frenchwoman Marion Mortefon and the Polish Anastasiya Valkevich, sailors in the Open Foil category, were the only women who competed in the regatta, successfully finishing the test and Marion taking first position and Anastasiya second.
