Mancha Blanca was the setting on Thursday, Canary Islands Day, for the celebration of the Canary Islands Ball Tournament, Félix Morales Fernández Memorial of pasta balls, organized by the Tinajo City Council together with the Nazaret Bowling Club and the collaboration of the Tinache-Tinajo Ball Club and Sports of the Lanzarote Island Council.
In the competition, which hosted a total of sixty-four male and female teams, six Canary Islands participated: twenty teams from Fuerteventura, two teams from Gran Canaria, four from Tenerife, six teams from the island of La Palma and one from El Hierro, the rest being from the island of Lanzarote.
In the women's category, Club Ajei was the winner (Rita Rocío, Guacimara Pérez, Lourdes Pérez and Catalina Tejera), the second classified was Lanzarote Tropical (Soraya, Saray, Nelli and Sole) and the third was Las Panenkas (Sabrina, Patricia, Margarita and Montse).
In the men's category, Club Ajei (Octavio Corujo, Juan Carlos Domínguez, Olegario Barrios, Juan Jesús Concepción and José Antonio Rocío) were the champions. The second drawer of the podium was for Club Arrecife (Juan Jesús, Fefo, Carmelo and Tomás), with the team of Toño Rodríguez (Manuel, Miguel, Isidro and Rafael) coming in third.
The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo, Juan Monzón, the president of the Canary Islands Federation of Bowls and Petanque, Alicia Suárez, participated in the awards ceremony, accompanying the family of Félix Morales Fernández.
Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2, the Félix Morales Memorial Wooden Balls Cup will start at 10:00 am with men's and women's teams from Lanzarote together with teams from Fuerteventura and the island of La Palma.
The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, had very emotional words for the family of Félix Morales and congratulated all the participants for attending the tournament on such a special day for all Canarians as Canary Islands Day.
The competition, full of good atmosphere during the same, was the perfect complement to the celebrations organized by the Tinajero consistory around the Canary Islands event, bringing together thousands of people on a wonderful day in Tinajo.
