Saúl Escarabajal and Mia Leadbeater conquer the XXXII RCNA Triathlon – City of Arrecife

Arrecife once again became the epicenter of triathlon this Saturday with the celebration of the XXXII edition of the RCNA – Ciudad de Arrecife 2026 Triathlon, an event that brought together athletes of all ages and stood out for both its high competitive level and the atmosphere experienced throughout the day. Organized by the Arrecife City Council and the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation (FECANTRI) with the collaboration of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and the Cabildo de Lanzarote, it crowned Saúl Escarabajal and Mia Leadbeater as absolute winners. 

The competition, which was also valid for the Lanzarote Island Championship, marked a milestone by being the first time the island championship was held within a triathlon event on the island, thus reinforcing the importance of an event already consolidated within the Lanzarote sports calendar.

The activity began at 10:00 AM with the distribution of bibs and the corresponding participant check-in. An hour later, at 11:00 AM, the start was given for the Sprint modality, which opened an intense morning of competition. 

The initial stages of the race were conditioned by the wind, although the meteorological conditions improved with the passing minutes, leading to an ideal scenario for practicing triathlon, allowing athletes to compete in excellent conditions.

In the absolute men's race, Saúl Escarabajal from Lanzarote put in a remarkable performance to cross the finish line in first place with a time of 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 40 seconds. Escarabajal completed a very solid race that allowed him to finish almost two minutes ahead of Chamo Díaz, who came in second, while Cristian Martín took third place, finishing five minutes after the winner.

In the women's category, the victory went to Mia Leadbeater, who completed the course in 1:15:14 after a close duel with Carmen Falcón, who finished second just 14 seconds behind the winner. Sabrina Montes completed the podium with a time of 1:24:18.

The competition also included team participation. The Trilaguna team was proclaimed the winner after completing the event with a time of 1:28:19.

In addition to the general classification, the event awarded the first points of the Insular Championship of Lanzarote. In the men's category, Saúl Escarabajal and Chamo Díaz occupied the first two positions of the insular ranking, while Javier Dorronsoro completed the podium. In the women's category, Mia Leadbeater topped the classification, followed by Carolina Basanta and Idaira Rodríguez.

Canary Islands Championship

The day continued with the celebration of the Supersprint Triathlon, valid for the Canary Islands Championship, reserved for the children, cadets, and juniors categories, offering young athletes the opportunity to compete in a top-level event.

In the men's children's category, the victory went to Nassim Ayad Ahl Belkacem, followed by his brother Wassim Ayad Ahl Belkacem, who crossed the finish line just one minute later. The third position went to Darey García, a minute and a half behind the winner.

In the women's children's category, the triumph corresponded to María Marcos Soraluce, while Suhayla Balli Al Soufi del Diego finished in second position and Eva Cabrera Hernández completed the podium.

The cadet classification was led by Jorge Prados in the men's category and Ainhoa Domínguez in the women's. They were accompanied on the podium by Juan Manuel Sánchez and Himar Gil Rodríguez, in the men's competition, and Vega Martín, a triathlete from Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, and Carmen Marcos, in the women's.

For their part, the men's junior category had Ayoub Aryoubi as the winner, followed by Joel Concepción and Raúl González. In the women's, the first position went to Simonetta Valido, with Carla Carreiro and Nora Morales occupying the second and third places, respectively.

To close the sporting day, after the Supersprint Triathlon, a duathlon was held for the little ones, who enjoyed their participation before receiving their medals upon crossing the finish line, putting the finishing touch to a day marked by sport, camaraderie, and the promotion of triathlon among new generations.

Arrecife thus consolidates itself again as a reference venue for the organization of major sporting events, hosting an edition that brought together competition, youth talent, and the debut of the Insular Championship within the same day, in an atmosphere of participation and sportsmanship that once again made the club and the island's capital the center of Lanzarote triathlon.
