After Raúl Hernandez, 21 years old, surprised in the 43rd edition of the Orvecame Isla de Lanzarote Rally, winning the DISA CUP and the rally in his category, a penalty was imposed against the pilot of 180 seconds, because supposedly his vehicle had less weight than allowed. After this penalty, Raúl's team filed an appeal with the sports justice system, which now agrees with him, withdraws the penalty and returns to the Lanzarote native what he justly won at the controls of his car: The Disa Orvecame Rally Cup, and the victory in his category in the Orvecame Isla de Lanzarote rally.
"A sloppy and unprecedented weighing"
Within the resolution of the Sole Judge of the Canary Islands Automobile Federation, there appear actions with the weighing of Raúl Hernández that had never occurred in the history of Canarian motorsport. In fact, up to three commissioners acknowledged that in decades of service they had never seen a car weighed empty as the conejero was made to do. In addition, they removed the jack, wheel wrench, even the footrests, among many other things from the car, so that it weighed even less, when this is never done. In all the testimonies that the judge carried out, even to six commissioners, none of them makes clear how the weighing data was given, and who controlled the kilos that the Scale actually gave.
"An unfair persecution"
Several commissioners did not understand why Hernández was being treated like this: "In 28 years competing in motorsport, they have never made him remove tools, or things that they requested to remove on this occasion, to carry out the empty weighing", said a commissioner who even assured that "They never showed him the weighing of the car at any time". Another of the commissioners assured that "The car had never had weight problems during the test", and states that "when he read the regulations, he observed that the weighing should not have been done as it was done".
Raúl Hernández with his Disa Cup under his arm will compete for the Junior World Rally Championship as the only Spanish driver invited in 2023, starting on February 9 where the world event starts in Sweden.
