Puerto Calero kicks off the '44CUP Calero Marinas'

As part of the parallel activities, the organization has arranged a free spectator boat

Puerto Calero hosted this Wednesday, February 4, the official presentation of the 44Cup Calero Marinas, one of the most prestigious sailing competitions on the international scene, which once again places Lanzarote at the epicenter of high-level sailing.

With this act, the regatta officially begins, whose official training day is held today, while the official races will take place from tomorrow, February 5, and until Sunday 8 in the waters of Puerto CaleroThe presentation included the participation of representatives from the organization, institutions, and sailors

José Juan Calero, CEO of Calero Marinas, wanted to thank the trust that the RC44 class has placed in Puerto Calero since 2008 for the celebration of its events, also highlighting the important economic and media impact that this event generates for the island of Lanzarote

For his part, Bertrand Favre, director of the RC44 class, pointed out that not many destinations are capable of simultaneously offering optimal infrastructure and a race course for top-level events, underscoring that the circuit has consolidated over time. Favre highlighted the class's satisfaction for having grown and matured alongside the Calero Marinas organization over the yearsIn representation of the institutions, Héctor Fernández CEO of the Lanzarote Society for External Promotion, highlighted that Lanzarote leads destination spending in the Canary Islands, a fact that is driven by the celebration of high-level sporting events, such as the 44Cup Calero Marinas. Likewise, he emphasized the perfect alignment of this competition with the island's promotion strategy through the Lanzarote Sports Destination brand

Juan Mozón, counselor of the Sports Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, expressed the institution's gratitude to private initiative for making possible the celebration of top-level international events. Furthermore, he pointed out that his department is working to achieve the declaration of Lanzarote as the European Island of Sport.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, emphasized the effort, work, and commitment of the Calero family, thanking them for their work in making the municipality of Yaiza a benchmark for international sailing. He also highlighted that the repetition of so many editions is a clear demonstration of the importance of having a solid and high-level organizationFrom a sporting point of view, two sailors from Península Racing spoke to the media: Matthew Barber (Grinder) and Julia Miñana (Floater). Matthew highlighted that, despite competing in numerous high-level international circuits, the 44Cup stands out for being a very consolidated circuit, with a high degree of cohesion among the teams, which makes the races especially competitive and attractive. He also highlighted Lanzarote as a race course that always offers excellent sailing conditionsFor her part, Julia Miñana, a sailor coming from dinghy sailing, explained that her integration into the team was very natural, as she had shared previous experiences with the Canarian Gustavo Martínez Doreste, coach of Península Racing. In relation to the female role in sailing, she pointed out that when she started sailing, she barely had female role models in high competition, whereas currently there are many women who are part of important projects, showing her desire for this presence to continue growing in the futureAs part of the parallel activities, the organization has arranged a free spectator boat, which will depart on February 7 from Puerto Calero, offering the public the opportunity to follow the regattas from the sea
