Club Deportivo Evesport announces a new signing among the international drivers for this new edition of the Isla de los Volcanes-Ciudad de Arrecife Gravel Rally. It is the Norwegian Henning Solberg, older brother of the 2003 world champion Petter Solberg, with a distinguished career in the World Championship since 1998, including two full seasons, 2006 and 2011. His record in the WRC includes his time as an official Ford driver and has several overall podiums, his main hallmark being the spectacular nature of his driving.
In these days that the Rally Japan has returned to the WRC. Henning was third with a Ford Focus in a past edition of this Japanese rally, where the Spaniard Dani Sordo also reached the podium (second), while the winner was the Finn Mikko Hirvonen, the latter also a well-known driver of the Canary Islands fans for his participation in the "Isla de Lanzarote".
On this occasion Solberg will have the Italian Giovanni Bernacchini as co-driver in Lanzarote, who has occupied the right-hand seat of important drivers such as Nasser Al Attiyah. This team joins the international list that was inaugurated last week by the Frenchman Eric Camilli, the latter confirming these days that his co-driver will also be the Frenchman, François Xavier Buresi.
At 49 years old he can be considered a veteran of rallying, having started in the World Championship in 1996, adding a total of six podiums in his career in the WRC, within the orbit of the Stobart Ford World Rally Team, as well as Peugeot Norway, Munchi's Ford World Rally Team and Bozian Racing, among others.
Henning has contested at least one WRC rally every year from 1998 to 2016, including six full seasons in the top category between 2006 and 2011. Despite this, in recent years he has only been able to participate in a few World Championship rallies and competed in other specialties such as the European and World Rallycross Championships. His most recent performances are with a Ford Fiesta R5 in events in Sweden, Norway and Finland. For example, in September of this 2022 season he was second in the Trogstad Rally of the Norwegian championship.
For the Isla de los Volcanes-Ciudad de Arrecife Rally he will participate with a Citroen C3 Rally2 from the Sport&You Canarias team, under the direction of the driver Emma Falcón.
