South Africans Nicolas Notten and Michele Burn won gold at the first Sea Kayak World Championship, ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championship, organized by the Marlines de Lanzarote Canoeing Club, together with the Canary Islands Canoeing Federation and with the endorsement of the International Canoe Federation, the Royal Spanish Canoe Federation and the Higher Sports Council.
The race started at 11:30 a.m. from La Garita beach in Arrieta. The South Africans, Nicolas Notten, and Michele Burn, traveled the 27 kilometers of coastline to El Reducto beach in Arrecife, where they entered through the finish line after almost two hours of rowing in the sea of Lanzarote.
The Spanish group was able to add 3 medals to its record. In the women's under-23 category, Jade Wilson and Róisín Cahill won medals. While in the same gender category, the gold went to Ulvard Hart, the silver was taken by the Spaniard, Jorge Enríquez Gutiérrez and the bronze, Pierre Vilella.
