More than 500 triathletes took part in the triathlon event held in Puerto del Carmen

The Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon returned to the sports calendar after a year of absence due to the pandemic, with the eleventh edition being a success. The Plaza de Las Naciones, in Puerto del Carmen, was the nerve center of the triathlon event that was held on Saturday. Nicholas Ward and Lydia Dant were the winners of the main category of the Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon.

From early in the morning, the more than 500 participating triathletes arrived at the starting point, located this time on Los Pocillos beach. The sea was rough early in the day, which was going to make the triathletes' strokes difficult. The participants started in a staggered manner to avoid crowds and respect the established health regulations.

The main modality was the "Half Distance", with the triathletes having to face a 1.9-kilometer swimming course, to continue with a 90-kilometer cycling segment and conclude with a 21-kilometer run along the entire Avenida de Las Playas in Puerto del Carmen.

Nicholas Ward was the great dominator of the race and took the victory in the eleventh edition of the Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon, crossing the finish line with a time of 3 hours, 51 minutes and 23 seconds. The podium of the men's category would be completed with the second place of Ward Tom (03:57:18) and the third position of Fernando Marian (04:02:24).

The victory in the women's category went to the British Lydia Dant, crossing the finish line with a time of 4 hours, 6 minutes and 1 second. She was more than ten minutes ahead of the second classified, with the Belgian Alexandra Tondeur (04:16:24) taking the second step of the podium. And the third position went to the Spanish Zaira Lorenzo (04:22:25)

The largest number of participants was concentrated in the "Olympic" modality, which had a 1.5-kilometer swimming course, 42 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running, and in which nearly 300 triathletes of all ages took part.

The victory in the men's category was won by Jorge Wilkes, a triathlete who was able to cross the finish line with a time of less than two hours. The winner recorded a mark of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 52 seconds. The men's podium was completed with the second place of Luca Braun (02:01:37) and the third position of Aníbal Romay (02:02:32).

Cristina Rosendo was the winner of the women's category of the "Olympic" modality, completing the course of the race with a time of 2 hours and 41 minutes. The second position would be for Alba Weyland (02:44:43) and the women's podium was completed with the third position of Aitziber Gutiérrez (02:45:42)

Triathletes who are starting out in triathlon had the opportunity to take part in the "Supersprint" modality, who had to face a swimming segment of 400 meters, continue with 11 kilometers of bicycle and conclude with a 2.5-kilometer run. They were the first to start on Los Pocillos beach after 08:00 on Saturday.
Yerobe Rodríguez took the victory in the "Supersprint" modality with a time of 34 minutes and 48 seconds. The podium of the men's category was completed with the second place of Bruno Castro (41:58) and the third position of Juan Daniel González (42:49).

In the women's category, the triumph was for the British Loren Ward, completing the course with a mark of 40 minutes and 25 seconds. She was 28 seconds ahead of Leila Thom (40:53), and the third position on the podium went to Marina Guerra (42:12).
