This Saturday the 'IX Solidarity Race' was held in the town of Tahiche, framed in the festivities in honor of its patrons Santiago Apóstol and Santa Ana.
At 6:00 p.m. the town square next to the Santiago El Mayor Sociocultural Center was a real hive of people. Women and men, young people and children of all ages arrived carrying bags of non-perishable products, personal hygiene and cleaning products, thus complying with the organization's rules to participate in the sporting event. In the surroundings of the square there was a great festive atmosphere enlivened with disco music to warm up.
According to the organization, the collection exceeded 1,000 kilos, which will be distributed to the NGOs Calor y Café, Pequeño Valiente and Cáritas Parroquiales de Teguise. Before starting the race, the participants agreed that they were running to collaborate with a just cause and thus be able to help the most vulnerable people, also share a time with friends and in turn do a little exercise that is very good for health.
At 6:15 p.m. the race started with a total of 216 runners distributed in two modalities of 6 and 12 kilometers cross country. The finish line was also very lively with words of encouragement and applause.
In the men's 6-kilometer category, the first to reach the finish line was Hugo Pérez Robayna, followed by José Carlos Hernández Cabrera and Daniel Guerra Gutiérrez. The podium for the women was in first place for Adaya Martín Torres, Ana Lemes Martín and Paula Donela.
In the 12-kilometer category, the first three to reach the finish line were Tinguaro Quintero de Rosario, José Gabriel Garrucho Cuevas and Elías Estévez González, while the first women were Rosa Castellano Ribera, María Cristina Díaz and Kat Leeman.
All the women and men who managed to get on the podium received several gifts from various commercial firms that had collaborated with the organization. The organization thanked the commercial firms that each year answer their call and all the participants for their solidarity with those most in need.
