A new edition of the "City of Arrecife" Handball Tournament, an event organized by CB San José Obrero and with the support of the Arrecife City Council's Department of Sports, headed by Jacobo Lemes, was launched on Friday afternoon. Ca´Mario Lanzarote San José Obrero and McDonald´s Tenerife were in charge of playing the inaugural match and the victory went to the Tenerife team by 23-26.
The first goals of the match fell to Ca´Mario Lanzarote San José Obrero, obtaining a two-goal advantage that was quickly neutralized by McDonald´s Tenerife. The locals played with a very pressing 6:0 defense, which allowed them to steal several balls and mount fast counterattacks to achieve a 3-0 partial and provoke the first timeout of the Tenerife team's match (6-3).
Ca´Mario Lanzarote San José Obrero began to mark the first important differences on the scoreboard, reaching a rent of four goals in some phases of the first part. Jordi Lluelles, coach of San José Obrero, made rotations in the final minutes of the period, giving minutes to all the players who were on the bench. McDonald´s Tenerife took the opportunity to reduce differences, reaching the break with the result of 13-10 in favor of the locals.
The second half began with a 0-2 partial in favor of McDonald´s Tenerife, with Diego Reyes being in charge of breaking the dynamics of the Tenerife team with a seven-meter shot. Sergio Morera from Lanzarote completed a 1-4 partial in favor of McDonald´s Tenerife in the first four minutes of the game, tying the score on the scoreboard of the Titerroy Municipal Pavilion (14-14).
The game of Ca´Mario Lanzarote San José Obrero dropped many integers in the second half, with the players not having clear ideas in attack and giving many facilities in defense. A goal by Guillermo López put McDonald´s Tenerife ahead for the first time on the scoreboard, with Jordi Lluelles requesting a timeout in the 9th minute (15-16).
McDonald´s Tenerife was very comfortable on the court, reaching a rent of four goals. Pedro Noda was in charge of breaking the partial of the Tenerife team with a shot from the right side. The team coached by Tini Marrero knew how to manage the advantage in the final minutes of the match, taking the victory in the first match of the "City of Arrecife" Handball Tournament by 23-26.
The "City of Arrecife" Handball Tournament will continue on Saturday afternoon, with the match between BM Ingenio and McDonald´s Tenerife. A match that will be played from 18:00 hours in the Municipal Pavilion of Titerroy.
