CD Magec Tías Against Gender Violence began the new season receiving a visit from Segle XXI, one of the favorites in the Women's League 2 and who demonstrated this circumstance on the playing field. Despite the attempts of the red and blacks, they were defeated by 53 to 66 against Segle XXI.
The team, led by Cristo González, began with a surprise: the Italian Martina Pandori suffered a sprained ankle, which prevented her from participating in the match. Despite this significant absence, the Lanzarote team began playing head-to-head against the Catalans, favorites to be at the top of the standings. However, Segle XXI soon found an effective tool in their defense to destabilize the islanders.
From the beginning, the suffocating pressure from Segle XXI made it difficult for Magec Tías to feel comfortable on the court. The constant rotations from the bench provided some oxygen to the local team, but the equality was broken in favor of the visitors, who concluded the first quarter with a score of 15 to 24.
In the restart, the situation did not improve for Magec Tías. Segle XXI continued to extend their advantage, controlling both the offensive and defensive game, and putting the locals in serious trouble. At halftime, the score reflected a 17-point advantage for the peninsular team, with 28 to 45.
After passing through the locker rooms, Magec Tías failed to improve their performance, and the advantage of Segle XXI exceeded 20 points. However, as time passed, the visitors lowered the pressure, which allowed Magec Tías to cut the difference and believe in the possibility of a comeback. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 44 to 56, with a 12-point advantage for the visitors, which was even reduced to 9 points during the last period.
The Municipal Pavilion of Tías, with a good attendance of nearly 400 people, tried to carry their team on their shoulders to the cry of "Yes, we can!". However, Segle XXI proved solid in the final stages of the match, with an intense defense that prevented the Lanzarote team from starting the season with a victory. The final score was 53 to 66.
