The XXVI La Candelaria Tournament "Memorial Amigos del Magec" has concluded, a tournament that has been held in the municipality of Tías from last Thursday to this Sunday in an atmosphere of camaraderie and closeness, surrounded by the world of basketball.
The return of an event that has celebrated, with this edition, a total of 26 campaigns, is considered a return to normality at CD Magec Tías, which is gradually beginning to recover its social and sporting activity, as it did before Covid-19 appeared in our lives.
During Sunday, the different men's and women's matches took place in the Municipal Pavilion and the IES of Tías, to leave the final ranking of this edition, with main interest in the finals between Luther King and Santa Lucía Suresanta in the men's category and Luther King and Petro Pinto ASFE Sant Fruitós in the women's category.
Thus, the final men's ranking was headed by Luther King, followed by Santa Lucía Suresanta, once the Tenerife team defeated the Gran Canaria team in the final by 72 to 65. Third place went to the hosts of SPL Magec Tías, who beat SPL Conejero in the consolation final.
For its part, the women's classification ended with the first position of Luther King and the second place of Petro Pinto ASFE Sant Fruitós, as the Canary Island players managed to beat the Catalan players by 80 to 49 in the final. The third position was, after winning in the consolation final, for Lobos Grupo Toscones, while the fourth was for Ariagona Lanzarote. The fifth place was for Tacoronte, the sixth for Luther King Laguna, seventh were the players of SPL Magec Tías, while eighth finished those of Santa Lucía Suresanta.
The organization of the XXVI La Candelaria Tournament "Memorial Amigos del Magec" awarded the best players of the event. In the women's category, the MVP was Noa Aldana (Luther King) and the best player in the men's category was Gabriel Ramírez (Santa Lucía Suresanta).
The awards ceremony was very emotional, but the biggest applause of the event was given to the families of Manuel Seijas Bethencourt, Tomás Fernández Toledo, Tadeo Coll Corredera and Bilal Ahmed Nayin, who came once again to receive the warmth of the club to which they belonged at the time of their death 17 years ago.
CD Magec Tías closes the twenty-sixth edition of the La Candelaria Tournament "Memorial Amigos del Magec", but continues with its activities, already thinking about the day of the European Young Basketball League U14 that will be held in Tías from February 23 to 26.
