Lanzarote's veteran football celebrates the end of the season with emotion, awards and tribute. AFUVECO presented the trophies of the 2024/2025 campaign in Valterra and paying a heartfelt tribute to Alejandro Rodríguez "Guayo"

The veteran football family of Lanzarote met this Saturday at the Valterra Sociocultural Center, in Arrecife, to close the 2024/2025 season. The Conejero Veteran Football Association -AFUVECO- presented the trophies of the already completed campaign, distinguishing the best teams of the season and the most outstanding players in each of the categories.

The trophies were awarded to the top three finishers in the regular season competition. In the Preferente category, Veteranos Tías was third, San Bartolomé won the runner-up spot and Playa Honda won the championship title. Meanwhile, in the First Category, Unión Sur Yaiza was third, Leito de Proa was second and Banquitas Stadium won the championship title.

The Conejero Veteran Football Association -AFUVECO- presented a series of plaques and trophies. Domingo Travieso was recognized for his informative work, the Arrecife City Council in gratitude for its collaboration, and Miguel Moreno, as the most veteran delegate of the competition. 

Referee Chaxiraxi Díaz received the trophy for the best referee of the competition. The most emotional moment came with the posthumous title to Alejandro Rodríguez Cabarallo “Guayo”, who passed away a few months ago and was a great collaborator of the Conejero Veteran Football Association. His mother and son were in charge of collecting the detail that had been prepared for them.

Banquitas Stadium (First Category) and Amigos Latinos (Preferente), received the trophy for the teams with the fewest goals conceded of the season, and the fair play award went to Salitre and Veteranos Tías. Israel Hernández (Playa Honda) was the “pichichi” of the highest category and Víctor Medeiros (CD El Cruce Surf) the top scorer of the First Category. And the most veteran players of the competition were also distinguished, with the awards going to Ángel Vega (CD Tinajo) and Javi Díaz (CD El Cruce Surf)).

The event concluded with the awarding of trophies for the Insular Veteran Football League, competitions that celebrated the last matches last week. In the League, El San Bartolomé CF was proclaimed champion of the 2024/2025 season, after winning on Friday night in the final against Playa Honda by 1 to 2. In addition, San Bartolomé CF also received the trophy for champion of the Cup, conquering this season the double.

The awards ceremony of the Conejero Veteran Football Association -AFUVECO- was attended by Juan Monzón, Minister of Sports of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Eli Merino, Councilor for Sports of Arrecife, and Alexis Hernández, Councilor for Sports of San Bartolomé. At the end of the awards ceremony, the players and delegates enjoyed a lunch, sharing experiences of what happened this season and good music.
