The Island Sports Service of the Cabildo of Lanzarote organized the first island neurolimpiadas, which were attended by teams from the municipalities of Teguise, Arrecife, and Tías. In fact, the teams from the latter municipality, "Volcánicas" and "Luchadoras," qualified for the Canary Islands Championship to be held on December 12, 13, and 14 in Maspalomas.
The Minister of Physical Activity and Sports, Juan Monzón, congratulated the seven participating teams from the three municipalities. "Success goes beyond the podium; it lies in having demonstrated that through the combination of physical and cognitive tests, we can promote active aging and the social integration of our elders," the minister pointed out.
"Without a doubt, 'NeuroLanza' is consolidating itself as a fundamental event in our sports calendar, and we hope to expand participation in future editions," stated the councilor, who also invited the rest of the island's town councils "to join us for next year's edition," Monzón added
The competition kicked off on Saturday morning, an inauguration that was attended by the Minister of Physical Activity and Sports; the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León; the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque; and the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz; in addition to representatives from the departments of Seniors and Sports of the three participating municipalities.
A total of 120 athletes made up the seven participating teams from the municipalities of Arrecife, Teguise, and Tías. The event, marked by emotion and camaraderie in challenges such as Aro Canario and Cifras y Letras, resulted in a very tight classification: after the Volcánicas from Tías in first place, they were followed by the Luchadoras team (also from Tías) in second place and the La Graciosa team (Teguise) closing the podium, ahead of Las Trompeteras (Teguise), Timanfaya (Arrecife), Dinamita (Arrecife), and Ni una gota (Teguise)
"NeuroLanza's success lies in this inter-administrative collaboration and, of course, in the joy and commitment of our seniors. We are already working to make the next edition even more ambitious, with more teams and more challenges that continue to demonstrate the vitality of our island," concluded the Minister of Physical Activity and Sports
