The young karatekas of the Karate Poliarrecife club have reaped two gold medals in the XXX Pepe Pérez Trophy, a regional championship, organized by the Canary Karate Federation, held last Sunday at the Islas Canarias Pavilion in Finca España, in La Laguna, Tenerife, in which more than 700 karatekas from the islands participated.
Amelie Skiba reached first place in the Female Youth Kumite category -47-52 kgs., winning her four fights clearly.
For his part, Mikel González also obtained Gold in the Male Cadet Kumite category -52 kgs, winning his three fights and, like Amelie, with clear superiority.
The expedition was completed with Alejandro García and Gael Guadalupe, in Male Youth Kumite -48 kgs, Jimena Padilla, in Female Cadet Kumite – 54 kgs., and the youngest of those who traveled, Caleb Padrón, in Male Child Kumite category -35 kgs, who had a very good competition, but could not reach the podium positions.
They were assisted on the tatamis by Nicolas Lasso, acting as Coach.
The presence of the Club was completed with Jaime Abdul and José Antonio Lasso, who were in the capacity of referees.
It should be noted that both Amelie and Mikel, both Champions of the Canary Islands in 2022, have won all their matches this year in all the regional events in which they have participated, consolidating themselves as the best in their respective categories in the Canary Islands. Both have also been selected in this 2022 by the Canary Karate Federation to integrate the Canary Selection in their respective Spanish Championships.
The next and important event of the Club, in which it will be the last competition of the year, is in A Coruña. In the Grand Final of the National Karate League, for which Amelie Skiba has achieved her classification, after placing second in the National Ranking (only the first 8 in the ranking qualify) thanks to two bronze medals obtained in the two national days of her category, held in Santiago de Compostela in January, and in Ávila last November.
In that Grand Final of the LNK in A Coruña our Club will also be represented by Jeremías Lasso, who attends as National Referee of the Canary Federation.
