Julius Pleschke, Youth champion and Absolute runner-up of Lanzarote 2023

Another participant from the Tinajo Chess Club, Laura Chara Erazo, finishes as female runner-up with a commendable result of 4.5 points

This Sunday the Individual Championship of the Absolute, Youth, Female and Veteran categories of Lanzarote 2023 concluded, which was held at the facilities of the Lanzarote Yacht Club and in which 55 players participated. The 13-year-old from the Tinajo Chess Club, Julius Pleschke, has tied in first place with six points, but by tie-breaking system he has been placed Absolute runner-up and in turn becomes Youth champion of Lanzarote. Pleschke already has three island championships this year: in Under14, Children's and now in Youth.

Another participant from Tinajo CDA, Laura Chara Erazo, finishes as female runner-up with a commendable result of 4.5 points.

The classified by categories are Pedro Tomás Pérez Alemán, from Club 1Chess, Absolute champion; Julius Pleschke, from Tinajo CDA, Youth champion; Katharina Bangiev, from La Caja de Vecindario, Female champion; and José Carmelo Pérez Cejudo, from Club 1Chess, Veteran champion.

These players will represent the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands Autonomous Championships in their respective categories, which will take place in May. The vice president of the Tinajo CDA sports entity, Acaymo Martín Cedrés, expresses his congratulations not only to Julius and Laura, but to all the participants.

From the organization they point out that “this tournament has been played at a slow pace of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds of increment per move, in seven rounds of games”.
