The Haría City Council, in collaboration with the Tabayesco Festival Committee, will celebrate this Saturday, January 18, within the framework of the Virgen de la Candelaria Festivities, the XIV Tabayesco Popular Race, a sporting event that aims to raise food for the La Casa de las Estrellas Protectorate.
The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, highlights that "the fourteenth edition of an event designed to be enjoyed as a family is being celebrated, with a variety of modalities for both minors and adults, and a mixed route through our municipality of asphalt and land."
The Councilor for Sports, Alberto de León, points out that "it is a pleasure to have this race within the festivities of the Virgen de la Candelaria. This activity not only promotes sports, but also encourages solidarity and seeks to raise food for animals."
Registration can be done for free between 3:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. at the Tabayesco Sociocultural Center. To participate, the participants must make a donation of food for animals.
Modalities and prizes
The day will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the start of the children's race, which will have an approximate distance of one kilometer and is aimed at children under 14 years of age. At 5:30 p.m. it will be the turn of the adult category, who will travel about 7.5 kilometers, with a route that includes the Temisa Valley and the interior of the town, and will end again at the Tabayesco Sociocultural Center.
The participants in both categories will have the opportunity to opt for prizes that can be exchanged for sports equipment. In the adult modality, the first place will receive a voucher for 100 euros, the second a voucher for 75 euros, and the third a voucher for 50 euros. In the children's category, the first classification will obtain a voucher for 75 euros, the second one for 50 euros, and the third a voucher for 25 euros.
The organization recommends that people competing in the adult modality wear headlamps, as part of the route will run along roads with little lighting. The awards ceremony will take place at the end of the races and will be accompanied by a musical performance to close the day.
