The Argana Sports Palace experienced an intense day of basketball with the celebration of the second edition of the San Ginés 3x3 Tournament Memorial Marcial Martín Rodríguez, an event that brought together fifteen teams and nearly seventy-five players, and once again turned Arrecife into the epicenter of 3x3 basketball and basketball in general.
Twelve teams competed in the men's category and another three competed in the mixed modality, in a day marked by competition and good atmosphere, in addition to the special component of honoring Marcial Martín Rodríguez, whose memory gives the tournament its name.
In the men's competition, Gym Tonic was proclaimed champion of this second edition, with Percha&Roll as runner-up. In the mixed category, Summer 3x3 took the title, while Los Moluscos finished in second place.
The tournament was organized by Canarias 3x3, under the direction of FIBA-licensed Superior Coach and journalist Gonzalo Mejías, in collaboration with the Sports Department of the Arrecife City Council.
The councilor of the Arrecife City Council, Roberto Herbón, was in charge of presenting the trophies to the winning and finalist teams, putting the finishing touch to a day that for several hours turned the Argana Sports Palace into one of the summer meeting points for island basketball.
The celebration also had particularly emotional moments. The organization presented a plaque of appreciation to the Arrecife City Council and the Canary Islands Basketball Federation for their collaboration in the development of the tournament and, especially, a recognition was given to the family of Marcial Martín Rodríguez. His sister was in charge of collecting the plaque on behalf of the family, in one of the most significant moments of a competition that was also born with the vocation of keeping his memory alive through basketball, a sport he played and loved.
The second edition of the 3x3 San Ginés Memorial Marcial Martín Rodríguez thus confirms the growth of a modality that increasingly has more followers and participants in Lanzarote. Fifteen teams, nearly seventy-five players who have enjoyed a spectacular day of basketball that has served to consolidate an event that combines competition and spectacle with something even more important: the capacity of sport to bring people together and keep alive the bonds that make it special, demonstrating, once again, the unity of the Lanzarote basketball universe.
