The Canary Islands Sub'17 (Cadet) Badminton Championship was held this weekend, a competition that included the participation of Graciela Müggler, a player from the Auria Badminton Club, and which took place in the town of Ravelo, in the municipality of El Sauzal, in Tenerife. The Lanzarote native completed a brilliant competition to win the silver medal, and thus achieve direct qualification for the Spanish Championship of Autonomous Communities (CESA).
Graciela Müggler, a player who started as the number two seed, secured qualification for the final draw of the Canary Islands Sub'17 Championship by winning both matches in the group stage. In the first match, she defeated María José Osorio from Gran Canaria (21-4, 21-5), and in the second, she won against Julia Gimeno from Tenerife (21-8, 21-8).
In the round of sixteen, Graciela Müggler defeated Daria Toporivschi from La Gomera (21-8, 21-13), and advanced to the fight for medals by defeating Julia Gopar from Majorca in the quarterfinals (21-11, 21-10). She also faced a player from Fuerteventura in the semifinals, with the Lanzarote native defeating Aixa Santana (21-9, 21-18).
In the grand final, held on Sunday morning at the Paulino Rivero Sports Center, Graciela Müggler faced Sulimar Cabrera from Tenerife, and lost by a score of 11-21 and 13-21. The Auria Badminton Club player wins the silver medal in the Canary Islands Sub'17 Championship. This second place will allow her to represent the Canary Islands in the Spanish Championship of Autonomous Communities at School Age (CESA), which will take place from June 19 to 22 in Langreo, Asturias.
Graciela Müggler also participated in the women's doubles in the Canary Islands Sub'17 Championship, partnering with Ariana Noemi Goncalvez (La Gomera). They were unable to overcome the group stage, after losing in the first match against Celia Cabrera and Julia Gopar from Fuerteventura (11-21, 7-21) and defeating Julia Gimeno and Lucía Hernández from Tenerife (21-15, 21-16).
