This Saturday, the second day of the XXXI edition of the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup was held, a sport fishing tournament that, once again, brought together the best crews in the waters of Lanzarote. Although the wind and the state of the sea did not offer the most ideal conditions for fishing, the participants demonstrated their great experience and passion for this sport, making the day a new opportunity to enjoy the sea and competition.
From the beginning of the day, the crews arrived eager, knowing that two blue marlins had already been marked on the first day. The Showtime led the classification with a blue of 200 kg, while the Showtime of Pedro Boni, with a marlin of 250 kg, occupied the second provisional position.
Throughout the day, there were moments of great intensity, with several hits and at least four certified blue marlins: Jessiran 1, Blue Fin, Pura Vida and, to everyone's surprise, the Naomi, which captured its second blue at the last minute, securing its victory.
The final classification was as follows:
-Naomi (Juan Cabrera) – 2 certified blues (Award for the highest score). The Naomi took the qualification to be in the World Fishing Championship in Costa Rica.
-Showtime (Pedro Boni) – 2nd highest score.
-Exodus (Luis Padrón) – 3rd highest score.
In addition, other important awards were given:
Chimarro received the award for the best image. Roda 3 was awarded the prize for the most sustainable boat, awarded by RedPromar. During the awards ceremony, Jessica de León, Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, emphasized "the importance of the Canary Islands business community in the tourism industry, using Calero Marinas as an example in these more than forty years with more than a thousand moorings in operation in the archipelago and the development of nautical tourism, adding value and qualification to the tourism that visits the islands."
The finishing touch was provided by the Inerxia group, which enlivened a pleasant night in the Puerto Calero Marina and made this edition an unforgettable experience for all participants and attendees.
Finally, it has been confirmed that the 2026 edition of the Calero Marinas Marlin Cup will be held in the new Calero Marinas project in Fuerteventura, in Marina Jandía, which promises to continue raising the category of the tournament in the coming years.
The tournament is organized by Calero Marinas, in collaboration with the Wahoo Azul Puerto Calero Fishing Club, and has the support of entities such as the Canary Islands, Lanzarote Tourism, Yaiza City Council (through its Sports area), as well as the sponsors Cicar, Aon, Grupo Santander, Ereza, Grupo Tiagua and Maderas Marcial González.
