CD Uninsu, a Teguise indoor hockey team whose players have functional diversity, are asking for greater collaboration and support from public administrations in order to cover the costs of travel during matches.
Javier Roldán, president of the club and player, explained to La Voz that "this sport is only played on the peninsula, so we have to travel outside and it is very expensive." Specifically, this year he has planned two trips to each venue, one in Barcelona and one in Madrid.
Despite having received subsidies from the Teguise City Council, until the amount reaches them, they have no possibility of covering these expenses, which include flights, accommodation, or the costs of sports equipment itself, such as the need for a barrier to prevent the ball from leaving the court.
They also demand the need for adapted transportation so that the players can go to practice because "there are several kids who do not have personal transportation, we need public institutions to help us in that sense as well."
Therefore, they ask that public institutions get involved through subsidies, but also through sponsors, something necessary in sports activities.
CD Uninsu is a mixed non-profit team, made up of players between 10 and 32 years old, and is managed by the players themselves. Its objective is not only to have fun, but also to improve the competitive level and, above all, to fulfill the dream of being athletes.
