CD Pingüinos has ceased to be a promise to become an undeniable reality of Spanish artistic swimming. After its brilliant performance at the Spanish Youth and Junior Championship held in Pontevedra March 6-8, the Lanzarote club has confirmed its place in the elite, competing face to face and surpassing historical structures that, for decades, have dominated this sport.
An unprecedented rise against the giants
In a discipline where names like C.N. Sabadell, Granollers, Kallípolis, Metropole or Sincro Sevilla have maintained a historical hegemony, the Lanzarote club has managed to break the mold. With talent, technical rigor and a decided commitment to excellence, CD Pingüinos has established itself in the national First Division, demonstrating that geographical distance is not an impediment to leading the Spanish competitive landscape.
The seal of excellence in Pontevedra The club's success in this championship has been cemented on results that speak for themselves:
● Alevín Category: After a brilliant bronze in figures by Avril Bethencourt (competing among 330 aspirants), the club achieved a fourth place in the combined routine. This result was a high-intensity pulse against the 32 participating combos, where the team remained on the podium until the last breath, surpassing a large part of the national referents.
● Children's Category: The club finished the championship as Runner-up of Spain in the Children's Trophy standing out among the 35 clubs. Miguel Martínez, double Champion of Spain in his group and in male figures, and a key piece in the silver obtained together with Adriana Delgado in the Mixed Duo. The high level of the team was completed with the outstanding fourth position of the other Mixed Duo composed of Pau Hernández and Nahomy Sofía López, and sixth in the combined routine.
A project with future in the Selection
Beyond the medals, the club's prestige is measured by the projection of its swimmers. Miguel Martínez's call-up for the national team after the selection trials held in Pontevedra is the best endorsement of a project that trains world-class swimmers.
What has been achieved by CD Pingüinos is a feat of Canarian sport. In a few years, the entity has gone from being a local bet to being a feared and respected rival by the most decorated clubs in the country. A path built with daily effort that demonstrates that Lanzarote is already, by its own right, one of the capitals of artistic swimming in Spain.
We want to express our most sincere gratitude to Club Galaico for their excellent work as hosts and take the opportunity to recognize the quality of the Rías do Sur swimming pool facilities, undoubtedly a reference model for our discipline. Hopefully, in the near future, we will be able to count on infrastructures of this level in Lanzarote to continue promoting local talent.
Deserved recognition to our athletes and technicians, and thanks to families and entities that make our national participation possible: the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, the Cabildo de Lanzarote, EPEL-CACT, Ayuntamiento de Arrecife, Gobierno de Canarias, Ayuntamiento de Teguise and the Sociedad de Promoción Exterior de Lanzarote.
