Magec Tías Against Gender Violence welcomed the 2023/2024 season at an event that brought together players, coaching staff, managers, sponsors, fans and press. The celebration took place at the facilities of Bodegas La Geria and was presented by Sara Duarte, journalist of the Canarian Television and former player of the club,
The coach of the Lanzarote team of the Women's League 2, Jesús García, took the floor first and expressed his determination: "I can only promise work and sacrifice." García thanked the club for the confidence placed in his renewal and also the players who this year are part of the team for having trusted the project.
The manager of Toyota Lanzarote, Guacimara Rodríguez, also had her moment. Toyota Lanzarote has recently signed an agreement with the club to display the brand logo on the shirt. Guacimara, who was a player of the club for more than a decade, even participating in the promotion phase to Women's League 2, said that "we were looking for a club that had the same ideals as us in terms of equality, and we could not think of any better than a women's team, such as Magec Tías Against Gender Violence." The president of the club, Yanira Rodríguez, expressed her gratitude by giving Guacimara a painting with a first team shirt with the Toyota logo.
Ana Brito, director of the Canarian Institute of Equality, thanked the club for the invitation and praised the work they do in favor of equality. She encouraged the players to be an example for other athletes who are following in their footsteps.
The Sports Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, and the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, shared their pride in having a national team in the category and highlighted their unconditional support for Magec Tías. They highlighted not only the sporting success, but also the values that the team represents.
The act of speeches concluded with the words of the team captains, Yaiza García and Carolina Mateo, who explained why they decided to return to Magec Tías, where they trained and made the leap to national basketball. Carolina Mateo said that "the club reached out and helped me when I returned," while Yaiza García said that "the support I received from the entity when I decided to return to the island and the facilities that have given me to be able to combine motherhood and basketball." Both highlighted the sense of the word "family" as a fundamental part of the club's idiosyncrasy.
The event concluded with Canarian music, wine from La Geria and a delicious snack that gave all those present a day out of the ordinary. Positive vibrations filled the atmosphere, making it clear that Magec Tías "Against Gender Violence is ready for a season full of successes, both on the court and in the promotion of gender equality.
