The last day of the Second Division National Club League was held this past weekend, with the Auria Badminton Club playing the last six matches of the competition in El Rosario, Tenerife. With five victories and one defeat on the last day, the Auria Badminton Club is proclaimed champion of the National Club League and qualifies for the promotion phase to the First Bronze Division, which will be held in May in Tenerife.
The competition weekend did not start entirely well for the interests of the Auria Badminton Club, falling defeated in the match played against Tiguaneje of Fuerteventura (2-3). The points added by the women's doubles formed by Zeneida Ortiz and Laura María Solis against Zayra Aguiar and Tamara Rodríguez (10-11, 5-11, 11-10, 11-9, 11-9), and by Laura María Solis in the women's singles against Zayra Aguilar (4-11, 10-11, 11-8, 11-1, 11-4), were insufficient.
The Auria Badminton Club recovered from the defeat suffered, and with considerable authority won the remaining three matches played on Saturday. The Lanzarote team added the victory against Santa Úrsula Badnor, Caparina Badminton and Badfor El Sauzal, winning in all three matches by a clear 5 to 0, not conceding any match.
The two matches on Sunday were more disputed and in which they certified the leadership of the classification of the Second Division National Club League. In the first match of the morning, they won 3 to 2 against Victor Team, with Zeneida Ortiz scoring the key points in the women's singles against Vanessa Jurk (11-10, 11-4, 11-7), the women's doubles formed by Zeneida Ortiz and Laura María Solis against Sandra Flores and Elisa Rostro (11-6, 11- 10, 11-6), and the mixed doubles composed of Hendrik Olschewski and Laura María Solis against David Rostro and Elisa Rostro (11-5, 11-10, 11-7).
And in the last match, the Auria Badminton Club won against Universitario “A” by a tight 3 to 2, adding the three points to be proclaimed champions of the Second Division National Club League. The mixed doubles formed by Hendrik Olschewski and Laura María Solis added the point against Wilmer González and Marta Morales (11-7, 9-11, 11-2, 11-4), as did the women's doubles integrated by Ana María Mesa and Laura María Solis by winning against Marta Morales and Alejandra Rodríguez (11-4, 11-6, 11-7). Zeneida Ortiz achieved the definitive point in the women's singles played against Aitana Padrón (11-5, 11-6, 11-3).
The Auria Badminton Club qualifies for the promotion phase to the First Bronze Division, a competition that takes place on the weekend of May 17 and 18 at the Los Hinojeros Municipal Pavilion, in Tenerife. A final phase in which the best clubs from the Canary Islands, Madrid, Catalonia, Aragon, Asturias and Andalusia will be, and the teams classified in 9th and 10th place in the First Bronze Division. Four places will be at stake to achieve promotion.
