The Sports Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote celebrates the success of participation and public attendance at the XXIX edition of the Lanzarote Island Gymnastics Festival, which was held this Saturday in two sessions at the Lanzarote Sports City.
The Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, thanked the nearly one thousand people who passed through the Lanzarote Sports City on Saturday to enjoy the festival. In addition to the numerous teams that passed through the island pavilion, a tribute was paid to Lolina Curbelo, “who is undoubtedly the architect of this sport being so widely practiced on our island”, said Monzón.
Tenesa Sol, Tigotán, Isla de Lanzarote, Ayatima, Club de Gimnasia Artística Salitre, Santa María de Los Volcanes Nazaret, Municipal School of Tinajo, Municipal School of Yaiza, Culdecase La Graciosa Association and the Capellanía del Yagabo School were the clubs that participated in this edition, with performances framed in the celebration of Canary Islands Day.
As each of the performances of the Lanzarote clubs came to an end, the growth of a light in Lanzarote was announced, which, at the end of the last one, was discovered to be undoubtedly the figure of Lolina Curbelo.
“It was a very emotional moment for everyone, both for her family and for gymnastics lovers, all aware of the importance of the figure of Lolina Curbelo”, said Monzón.
At the end of the festival, the Minister of Sports, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports of the Arrecife City Council, Eli Merino, presented a commemorative plaque to the daughter and grandson of Lolina Curbelo.
