Let me start by saying that I find it unworthy and improper of a State that is supposed to be advanced in social and health rights, in order to use politically correct words, the way in which the Spanish and Canarian Governments keep human beings crowded in the Arguineguín dock or the warehouses between San Bartolomé and Arrecife; but, having said that, I find the irresponsibility of the Canarian and Conjero leaders who have their mouths covered with the rose in their fist equally improper.
The humanitarian situation of these people and their well-being must be above any other political or ideological approach, but the problem is not being addressed from that perspective, nor from that of a land overwhelmed by the situation and with physical and demographic limitations to assume the migratory pressure of being the southern gateway to the European Union.
The "opportunity" that the mafias sell to those who only seek their legitimate dream of a better future is becoming a serious conflict of interest for the Canarians. A people whose solidarity no one can doubt, but who, at the same time, see the future of their people endangered by this situation.
Spain has turned its back on the Canary Islands and that is evident, but we cannot allow actions to release these people in an irregular situation to condition the well-being of our cities.
What would happen in Arrecife if the hundreds of irregular immigrants who are kept in warehouses in subhuman conditions saw an open door to abandon that situation and try their luck in our capital? Can they in that irregular situation aspire to have a work contract that allows them to cover their essential needs? Can they in their irregular situation take a plane or a boat to try their luck on the European continent? What can those people live on in our city? Charity? Perhaps they will be forced to commit crimes in order to survive?
Many unanswered questions that even the political leaders responsible for this situation do not seem to ask themselves. The time has come to say ENOUGH.
ENOUGH of transferring an international problem to a limited island territory with little possibility of giving these people decent living alternatives.
ENOUGH of complacent policies so as not to bother Papi Sánchez with "a few immigrants arriving in a boat". ENOUGH of playing politics with the bread of our people.
ENOUGH of mortgaging the future of our children. ENOUGH of absurd justifications and asking for explanations that do not arrive.
ENOUGH, do not presume any more to worry about people and look the other way when they come to this land only on vacation.
LET US RAISE OUR VOICE, let us do it with forcefulness and ask for SERIOUS AND DECISIVE POLICIES.
Abandon the surrender to some acronyms and ensure the interests of the citizens they represent.
ARRECIFE, LANZAROTE AND CANARIAS SAY ENOUGH!! In Arrecife we do not want to be tomorrow the Mogán of yesterday.
