I still have the desperate and astonished feeling that Monday's debate left me with. And there are many sensations. Of course, the most abundant: unease and disappointment. More than a unique opportunity to express the very interesting proposals of both main leaders of the political ladder, it became a true media show.
Feijóo arrived with an alibi and perfectly executed his intentions. To destroy the only face-to-face meeting he would have with Pedro Sánchez during the entire election campaign. The hopes of overcoming a combat based on fair play rules were non-existent, which is why, determined, he launched himself to play on an unequal playing field, with despicable tactics that would allow him to win the game. All this with a quite clear objective: not to address the citizens or talk about what really matters to them.
A debate that leaves much to be desired. If we could take anything clear, it is that the past was the key to placing ourselves where we are today. An opposition that does not present an alternative political project to its already thrashed "we will repeal Sanchismo". Nothing to do with a serious political project that allows it to govern for the next 4 years. Being aware of this, his strategy lasted throughout the debate: to mire and muddy the years of government of progress and freedom. All this with a great ingredient: the lie. And, of course, when you have nothing to offer, disinformation stands as the main course. He lied about employment data, European funds, inflation, economy, pensions, foreign policy, equality policy, ... And a great constellation of lies that I don't want to anticipate if you couldn't watch the debate in time and form.
There are few days left for us to go to the elections next Sunday 23J. The one behind these letters is young and enthusiastic. Worried and occupied with the real situation that the current political scenario is going through. Between confrontations and fragmentations of parties resides common sense and sanity. The desire to fight and defend our rights. The political will of our times does not have to endure in the feeling of times to come.
In the debate, youth was the most express omission. Far from answering the countless concerns that, in the age of progress and aspiration, are legitimate to feel, it was chosen to avoid us and show who "gave more".
The young people of the country feel part of politics, I have no doubt, but not sufficiently represented. With increased scholarship allocations or VIP passes to nightclubs, they are not satisfied, much less can they aspire to forge a stable future.
No matter how much they have not even mentioned us, next 23J many young people will be making a decision through our vote, because we are aware of the importance that politics has in our lives. I can only think of the young British, they never thought they would lose so many advantages and rights.
Politics must be debate, contraposition, active listening, humility. We deserve more than what we could see on Monday. Young people are willing to lend a hand, to collaborate and to be useful whenever necessary.
