The left is putting all the meat on the grill so that the demonstration on April 20th will be a success, which I have no doubt they will have, given the fertility of this land - and of all of Spain - with progressive ideology, the "woke" and its homeopathic economic theories.
In previous columns I have explained that what they call the "problem of tourism saturation" or "problem of the tourism model" is nothing more than the serious manifestation of the problem of access to housing that is experienced throughout Spain due, mainly, to the social-communist government that not only has not corrected the situation during the last 6 years of its government, but has also worsened it with its absurd laws and measures.
The problem is so obvious to almost everyone that even the Sánchez government has begun to back down in recent days, promising fewer procedures for developers, more funds and measures, and even with the Minister of Economy Cuerpo explicitly recognizing that it is a problem of supply. When the Sánchez government has backed down on something during these last 6 years, as with the "yes is yes" law, it has always been because they had reached such a level of stupidity that not even their own people believed it.
As I show in the following graph, in the 80s, 100,000 official protection homes were built per year (being 60% of all new annual supply), while currently they do not reach 10,000 per year, representing only 10% of the new supply. The construction collapse is almost total.

But in the Canary Islands, the left is trying to hide the great historical error of the national PSOE and its allies, with the idea that the problem is outside, in another place. They call it the wrong tourism model (but without offering specific alternatives) or saturation, when in reality we all know that they mean tourismophobia, hatred of capital and, why not say it to be completely honest? good xenophobia against citizens of the European Union who decide to settle in our land in some way.
The left-wing elites in our community know where to squeeze to fuel the populist flame of their electoral base and supporters. They try to win in the streets what they are losing in the polls. How is it going to be their fault for voting badly if they can blame others, especially if they are businessmen or European citizens who have more money?
With all these wickers, the demonstration, whatever it is called, has become a monumental ethical posturing where the left wants to demonstrate, once again, how superior they are and how bad those who do not think and feel like them are.
The César Manrique Foundation, extends carpets of all the national red-ism with Zapatero and Sanchez at the head, say they support the demonstration. But what legitimacy do these Pablos de Tarso have while they line their pockets charging tickets for that massive tourism that they say they do not support? What legitimacy do they have while they monetize a house made in the volcano after destroying the lava flow? When they stop drinking caviar and cava with the left that has ruined housing in this country, maybe someone with two fingers of forehead could take them seriously.
But what I like the most is when people like the singer Arístides Moreno, without presenting any economic argument, encourage the wokeprogress to attend the demonstration. I have to admit that the pathos and ethos that he gives off while accompanying his message with guitar strokes turns me on, although his logos is pure ideological plasticine. But who cares? Being called by the town halls to hire your services requires clearly defining the position of moral superiority of the left.
But do not think that this ethical posturing is exclusive to those lefts, taking advantage of the situation and for fear of being singled out as bad, the lamplighters of the Lanzarote Tourist Federation through its spokesperson, Susana Pérez, say that they are especially virtuous and that the fault lies with the politicians (which is true, of course) and the small owners who have vacation homes. Take that!
In short, that their tourism business is very good but that of private savers is very bad. That for some reason they are the good guys and the small capitalists are the bad guys.
As I said, everyone here is joining the ethical posturing. But reality is stubborn and the only way to solve this problem is by building housing massively to make up for lost time. There is plenty of land in already urban areas.
The only question that remains to be answered is who will be the Pablo Iglesias that comes out of this tourism-phobic movement on the 20th? and how long will it take for that new Pablo Iglesias to leave Vallecas to go live like a prince in his Galapagar?
