I just found out now that a little over a month ago Don Esteban Rodríguez, the Official Chronicler of Yaiza, left us. I had the luck to meet this extraordinary man last summer, at the beginning of September, when we presented the Canarian Tales of Benito Pérez Armas, published by Ediciones Remotas, in what was his birthplace, during the Fiestas de los Remedios, in a commemorative act for the
150th anniversary of his birth. I remember that he was the only person, among the audience, who was encouraged to ask something. And despite everything I had investigated, I could not clarify his concerns. We spoke for a few minutes at the end of the act and he told me about the family branch of the Armas in Yaiza. I would have liked to listen to him a little more. Because he kept the living memory of his people and his people. Every time someone like that leaves us, a piece of Lanzarote disappears. And that is what we will be in the end, a mindless island, drifting in the sea of Alzheimer's.

Rest in peace, Don Esteban. You will be present at the Insular Book Fair.
