My candidate

October 10 2017 (17:55 WEST)

Dolores Corujo was on vacation in Rome in July 2011 when she learned of the decision of the mayor of San Bartolomé, Marcial Martín, to resign from his position, which placed her at a definitive personal and professional crossroads: going from being a non-released Culture Councilor and psychologist by profession to dedicating all her time and efforts to taking the reins of the municipality. And so she did.

Exactly one year later, in July 2012, she was again requested by the Socialist Party to save an unprecedented congressional crisis situation, derived from the lack of support for the only official candidate. In just three days, she went from having little organic weight to leading the PSOE in Lanzarote, with broad support from the membership.

But Loli has not only taken steps forward when her party has required it. She has also taken steps back if her values and political ethics demanded it. In her parliamentary work, the socialist leader publicly expressed her discrepancies with the draft of the Land Law, which was being processed by the regional Executive with the express support of the vice president of the PSOE, Patricia Hernández. It was also the month of July, 2016.

Her departure from the Chamber in November of the same year was also controversial, to avoid voting in favor of the so-called Green Islands Law, a radical change in the model of territorial development of La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro that represents a frontal attack against the resolutions and the position of the PSOE regarding the territory and protected spaces.

The recent recognition of Dolores Corujo by the regional Executive, with her appointment as spokesperson for the parliamentary group, strengthens and makes her own a political direction that keeps the helm to the left, defends the protection of the weak, the sustainability of human development, equality and equitable justice, the main pillars of Socialism.

These few milestones in a paused, reflected and coherent political career, draw in my opinion the profile of the most suitable candidate to lead the party in Lanzarote for the next four years. Both her trajectory and her project, brave, honest and coherent with the values of the PSOE, are her best guarantee.
