Last Thursday, October 1st, at the Víctor Fernández Gopar "El Salinero" Theater, the show Recuerdos del jable, un canto a Antonio Corujo premiered, brought by his descendants and pupils. With an original idea by Óscar Pérez Cabrera and stage design and script by José María de Paiz, directed by maestro Toñín Corujo.

It was one of those occasions where you had to be there; the audience that filled the theater and applauded with emotion confirmed it.

We knew there would be good voices and good musicians, and that the songs of the artist Antonio Corujo, dedicated to Canarian folklore, would be sung again with their cadence. We also knew that the emotion of remembering a good man who never got angry and was always happy would firmly hover among the seats of an attentive audience; that was a sure thing.

But as always happens when the talent of this Lanzarote lineage of folklorists, musicians, singers, and instrumentalists, but above all, merrymakers, comes together, the result is outstanding.

This living, generous, implacable in its joy, expansive, and open lineage, like the alleys of an Arrecife that seeks the sea, gifted us last night a heartfelt tribute to one of its pillars, now gone but present in every note, chord, and strum, in the atavistic rhythm of the limpets, in the sharp sound of the violin and the tender embrace of the little camel.

In the exquisite voice of his nephews, in the hands of El Colorao, a man born to harvest the timple, Fabiola Socas, pure poetry, the children of Antonio, opening the door to the tender stories of their adored father. Many filled the stage, and all were good and grateful to be there.

A staging that accompanied tradition from the contemporary.

There is talent, there are boys and girls growing up surrounded by Antonio's legacy, there is a present, the honor of those who preceded us, and a future. There is, therefore, hope.
