I stand up for Lanzarote

December 15 2015 (08:28 WET)

When I took on the challenge of being the candidate of the Canarian Coalition to the Senate for Lanzarote, with the indispensable support of my colleagues, I had something very clear from the beginning: I was going to leave my skin in the attempt and I was always going to go head-on. I am going to stand up for Lanzarote, let no one doubt it.

It is the essence of the party to which I belong: the Canarian Coalition is the only formation that does not hide. We do not need to take shelter under the umbrella of white labels or acronyms. We do not have the need to put on our posters the face of others who do not know the Canary Islands and who only remember us every four years, when they come to ask for the vote and then act against those who supported them.

I am in politics by conviction, by social vocation, and I am sure that in the Senate you can work in a different way. I am very disenchanted with what the State has done for the Canary Islands and for Lanzarote; or rather, what it has failed to do. The island has never had a voice in the Upper House and it is time for the real problems of the people of Lanzarote to be heard and debated in the Senate. And I greatly fear that voting for another candidate who is not from the Canarian Coalition will be a useless vote, as the facts have shown so far.

We cannot continue to hide the reality of the Canary Islands. We need deputies and senators to stand up for the Archipelago. Only the men and women of the Canarian Coalition are free enough to assume this role.

I don't mind repeating this idea constantly because I will never tire of doing it: I want the best for my land. I want the mistreatment we have been suffering for years to end. I want them to stop taking away the 800 million euros a year that the rest of the Spaniards do receive. I want them to shield the REF to guarantee the basic services of my family, my friends, my neighbors. I will not stop claiming what rightfully belongs to us. Those who know me know that when I believe in something I don't give up, that I don't give up when my goal is to fight for the interests of citizens. In the same way that I persevered to excite and give a twist to the municipality of Haría after many years of stagnation, I will also do so to meet the needs of the entire island in the Senate if the people of Lanzarote choose me.

The Canarian Coalition cannot and will not change its discourse. We must insist on it in each electoral appointment because those who govern and have governed have not kept their word with the Canary Islands.

If I am elected senator, I do not plan to hide. I am going to raise my hand and my voice to benefit my land. I do not intend to be an accomplice, as others have been, of the cuts against the Canary Islands. I am not going to harm those who have voted for me and trusted me, as they have done. We need brave representatives, not obedient ones.

My only interest is the economic future, the social progress and the growth of my people. I am going to fight for my island 365 days a year, not the 15 days that the electoral campaign lasts. I stand up for the Canary Islands. I stand up for Lanzarote.
