Hope Sails Again

August 27 2025 (19:50 WEST)

Next Sunday, August 31, thousands of people from 44 different countries will gather in Barcelona to launch a new flotilla to break down the wall of ignominy that surrounds the Israeli genocide in Gaza. The boats departing from Barcelona will be joined by a second flotilla leaving from Tunisia on September 4.

From Lanzarote, we show our support for this initiative, which highlights, in these times of massacre and hypocrisy, the determined commitment of citizens worldwide to continue denouncing a crime against humanity condoned by the inaction of most of the world's governments.

Behind these boats sails the hope of millions of people who believe that a world with social justice is possible, that we do not resign ourselves to seeing in the media day after day how an entire people is executed with impunity, that we will not normalize the impotence of a childhood savagely massacred.

The magnitude of this mobilization is unprecedented, with thousands of participants, including doctors, trade unionists, artists, journalists, religious figures, and activists of all kinds. We hope that this time the governments that represent these mobilized citizens will defend their right to protest, because their silence makes them complicit in what is happening.

Israel is a genocidal state, supported by world powers such as the United States and the European Union, which must be punished with its immediate expulsion from any international political, economic, cultural, and sporting body.

We stand with the Palestinian people, therefore, we wish this initiative success, to end this genocide once and for all, because we are convinced that history will not forgive the guilty, nor the accomplices, nor those who pretended not to notice.

We invite the citizens of Lanzarote to participate in a pot-banging protest on Saturday, August 30 at 12:00 noon, at the old Cabildo, León y Castillo street.

Stop the genocide in Gaza and the ethnic cleansing in the West Bank.
