The General Strike day this March 8 is more than motivated, and among the most important demands are to end inequality in the labor, economic and social sphere of women, the adoption of measures to end the wage gap and inequality in pensions, the eradication of sexist stereotypes and macho values, the eradication of harassment and job insecurity, the development of labor and economic policies that make the reconciliation of personal and work life effective, an education in equality and non-sexist, the eradication of the intrusion of religions and beliefs in the public sphere, the end of macho terrorism and sexual violence, the real and effective equalization in the work of care and the effective equality of migrant women.
The objective of the strike is to make visible the leading role that women have in the sustainability of life. That shows the overload and invisibility of care, the absence of co-responsibility of men in domestic and care work and allows the maximum visibility of women.
It also has to be a consumer strike, the best tool to fight against capitalism and promote the feminist economy that puts life at the center instead of the markets and why not, a domestic work strike that shows the performance in an exaggeratedly unequal way carried out by women.
Feminist Strike against the ineffective policy in labor, economic and social matters, which causes permitted inequality between men and women; turns women into second or third class citizens; as well as to put an end to murders and macho violence, in short, to end patriarchy and its violence.
We call on the entire society to support and participate in as many actions, demonstrations and mobilizations as are organized on the island.
Likewise, we consider that the private space in this strike must be occupied by the companions and the public space by the companions.
By Manuel Plasencia, Member of the Canal Gestión works council representing the General Confederation of Labor (CGT).
