The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has responded on the program Buenos Días, Lanzarote de Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero to the accusations of the residents of the capital who complain about the continuous concerts in different areas and whose noise interferes with their rest. This has led them to form a neighborhood platform to try to take measures and be heard.
The mayor of the capital has highlighted the importance of concerts in central areas because "they boost the economy." "The last event we had, the Arrecife Ochentera, was a success in terms of attendance and participation. The restaurants and merchants in the area were quite happy with the revitalization that had been generated, which, in addition, suffered at the time the works of the avenue for a year and I think it is right that these autonomous entrepreneurs also have the support of the administration," de León stressed.
"We are the third capital of the Canary Islands and we are the capital of the island of Lanzarote and I believe that revitalization is part of the generation of jobs and you only have to see that the service sector is the one that is experiencing the greatest boom and there is no better commitment to employment than carrying out this type of activities," he said.
In addition, he assures that the established schedules of these activities guarantee neighborhood rest. "The event started at 7:30 p.m. and was already finished at 12:00 a.m. to be able to reconcile the rest of the neighbors in the area and it was a Friday and a Saturday, I do not think that public order or neighborhood rest is being altered by the celebration of these events," he said.
"I respect this neighborhood platform but I do not share many of the issues that are being poured on the events that have been taking place for the last 30 years with the exception of two or three more that have been added. The events are held in all cities and are also held in areas such as Puerto del Carmen and I do not see that there are neighborhood complaints because it seems that everything that is done in Arrecife is a reason for complaint," he declared.
The councilor has also said that the events "are not held every day of the week and that two, three or four weeks can pass without any being held." "During the works on the promenade, there were noises that were annoying for the neighbors and I did not hear complaints about the execution that always but now it seems that this alarmism has been created with the celebration of these shows in the capital," said the mayor.
Regarding the complaint that the neighborhood platform is planning to file, de León states that he is not worried. "I am not afraid of the complaint and the courts are there for what they are but I believe that these issues are not going to affect me, but they are going to affect the commercial sector of the area that may lead to the loss of jobs. They can do what they consider but the important thing is that the capital is having a lot of revitalization and participation, since they even move from other municipalities and even from other islands to come and celebrate these events," he said.
