Yonathan de León has presented proposals to the taxi sector to improve the service in the capital of Lanzarote. The meeting, held recently at the headquarters of the Taxi Cooperative in the Maneje neighborhood, has allowed the mayor to learn about the demands of the taxi sector and arbitrate, through the Department of Transportation and Mobility of the Arrecife City Council, formulas that enable the improvement of the taxi service in the short and medium term.
In this meeting, the capital's mayor was accompanied by the Councilor for Transportation and Mobility, Mario González Altube. On behalf of the group, the president of the Arrecife Taxi Cooperative, Lito Guillén, and the members of the Governing Board attended. The sector has conveyed to the mayor that the "dynamization of Arrecife is benefiting the taxi sector, which "is experiencing an important boom" and therefore it is required that there be "more professionals who can be hired, especially at night".
In this meeting it was agreed to "solve the demands and improve the public service." The mayor and the Councilor of the Area recall that the "citizens ask that the deficiencies be resolved" and for this, by mutual agreement, the "location of the taxi ranks will be redesigned", after the many modernization works in several streets of the capital of Lanzarote, and "rotating shifts will be arbitrated on days of cruise ship presence", among other short-term measures.
The taxi drivers stated that the application and advancement of new technologies to the fleet and the taxi switchboard will allow "offering a closer and faster service after being requested by the client." The Department of Transportation and Mobility will make a "direct monitoring of the application of the ordinances that regulate this public service".
Yonathan de León showed his "availability" and that of the Councilor of the Area in the City Council, Mario González, to hold "new meetings to address the requests of the sector", and conveyed his desire to "resolve them during this new term".
They also shared the "need to reach agreements and seek alternatives that reinforce the taxi service to the citizens", especially "in the neighborhoods", in order to have a service "more efficient" possible throughout the municipality.
From the City Council they have recalled that recently the "final tests aimed at obtaining the Municipal Taxi Driver's Permit" have been held, and that "other calls" will be made, periodically, that allow "having future professionals" to be hired by the holders of municipal licenses.
