The Yaiza City Council purchased two wastewater pumping stations that it is installing this week in one of the pumping stations of the old Playa Blanca partial plan and another shredding machine that it will put into service next week in that same urban area "with the aim of improving the reliability of the sanitation system." The mayor, Óscar Noda, also highlights that "the Administration acts subsidiarily, so we will later pass on the supply and installation costs to the developer. The investment amounts to 70,000 euros."

Through the mayor himself and the Water Councilor, Rubén Arca, Yaiza promptly reports to the Water Consortium and the Cabildo of Lanzarote the incidents of spills occurring in the Playa Blanca partial plan and at the pumping station near the Marcastell urbanization, as well as neighborhood complaints about bad odors emanating from both this infrastructure and the Playa Blanca Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR), located on the outskirts of town towards the village of Femés. Arca explains that "from the moment an incident occurs, we not only inform Canal Gestión and the Consortium, but we also mobilize resources to pump out and clean up."

The mayor of Yaiza insists that "the sanitation system requires a forceful and million-euro intervention. The Government of the Canary Islands has budgeted one million euros to expand and modernize the Playa Blanca Wastewater Treatment Plant, and although this is an insufficient investment because its upgrade requires more than 7 million euros, the Executive informs us that it has a multi-year investment planned. We also demand the modernization of the Marcastell pumping station." The City Council also asks for citizen cooperation to avoid flushing wet wipes down the toilet.
